Have you ever heard the phrase “Up a creek without a paddle?” I think I’m going to let the pictures do the talking this week while I go bury may face in some tissues.

Bartering with Chino the Handyman
I was pretty excited to be able to barter with Chino for 17+ pounds of deer meat this past weekend. I’m pretty much to the point now where I can’t even eat store bought hamburger meat anymore. The thought of giant vats of hamburger meat from hundred of different cows being processed and put onto foam trays gives me the shivers. Bleh. I’m becoming one of those meat snobs, I just know it.
Krispy Kreme $9.99
I knew this weeks budget was totally shot and The Girl and I were totally craving something sweet so when she asked if we could get a doughnut I was like sure, let’s just get a whole box.
Total Spent This Week $ 58.93
Total Spent This Year $1,184.81 <<<<< Only $15.19 left in my budget>>>>>
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $5.24.20
Total “Seed Money” donations received $51.00

That’s a great picture of you, Miss Mavis – would look fabby on a Christmas card or labels or something…t-shirts for your kids or whatever.
Haha! I think t-shirts for the kids would make an awesome Christmas present! Just imagine their excitement when they open their gift from Santa on Christmas morning, lol!
I would use the elf outfit with an Oh Mom you shouldn’t have.
I think the quote is “up a creek without a paddle.” I thought maybe the “hot donut sign” was on and you had gone in just for your free donut. Great coupons though and xmas tags.
Not just any old creek, but s**t creek.
I’ve seen how you can stretch a buck, I bet you can stay within your budget.
You can do it! Time to plan meals out of the pantry and freezer — and maybe do a little extra bartering.
Tell monkey boy his present to you is to buy the family milk thru the rest of the month with his allowance.
Ahhhhhh I LOVE IT!
Okay Lil Miss Mavis strap on your big girl panties and make a plan. Three weeks is all that is left in the year, granted it includes a rather large holiday. Assuming you have already purchased your holiday meal (I think I remember a ham) you can do this. Vitacost, swagbucks credits, all that Zaycon chicken, freezer meals! I have faith in you Mavis. Bring it on sister! $15.19 to you is like hitting pay dirt. Do we need to put together a bartering event? Mavis supporters could meet at a specified location with all their bartering goods and swap away.
Haha this is clever! Maybe we can meet somewhere in Ontario, Canada????
I love Canada! If only they allowed fruits and veggies from the states over the border:’)
On a foodie note: Yesterday I purchased one of the New York Holiday roasts (beef loin, bone in) that Fred Meyers has on sale for $3.47 per lb. It said only one per customer in the ad. I was thinking huh why? What is so special about this roast? Is this truly an awesome deal that they need to limit the purchase to only one. They are about $45 each so most people aren’t going to stock up at $45 a pop. Well, I got mine home and divided it into thirds thinking I’d serve one on Christmas and freeze the other two for nice dinners (company, etc). My husband came in and said, “lets make steaks out of the roasts”. What? I had no idea after 25 years of marriage that my husband is a closet butcher. He took the roasts untied them and removed the ribs (very easy, they practically fell off) then proceeded to cut the meat into New York steaks. 14 of them to be exact. Big thick steaks. Holy smokes was I ever giddy. We are a meat eating family (4 kids, 3 of them teenagish boys). That equals just over $3 per steak not including the ribs which I’ll make teriyaki ribs with in the crockpot. I thought that was a pretty good price given you’d pay $15+ at a restaurant for the same cut of steak. Now I’m on a mission to price these roast at some of the local butcher shops and see if they have a better price.
Heidi,
Do you have a Winco near you? If so, they usually also have a killer price on the roasts this time of year…
But there was no way to pass up the peanut butter deal at costco. Cheapest P.B. around here, even cheaper per ounce than peter pan at Sam’s and the no name brand stuff at the grocery store. I just wish they didn’t have a limit or I would have stocked up.
What PB deal? Isn’t it still 11-12 dollars for the two pack? I got a million jars of Planters at Albies when they were .49 each, so I haven’t checked Costco lately. Is it on rebate this week? Do tell! Thanks!!
They had a $3 off coupon. Ask at Costco. It ended being $8.99 for 2 jars.
Mavis – my son is only 4 and I have already learned that my list ALWAYS gets re-written when he goes shopping with me… which is ALWAYS!
Mavis, Yesterday Krispy kream had a coupon you could print and in honor of 12/12/12 you get a free dozen of glazed when you bought 1 dozen….so for $9.99 I got 2 dozens and got 2 sheets of the gift tags so another dozen free doughnuts and 12 free coffees….score!
Score!
What do you cook with deer meat? Recipes?
Also it would be great if there was an easier way to scoll through your wonderful recipies. Or save or email them.
Thank you for all your hard work!
