Yesterday the ground finally thawed enough to finish the rock border I started a few days ago. I needed to move the rocks forward a bit to accommodate the low growing  alyssum I expect to plant in front of the viburnum hedge along side the house.

A very serious Black Fatty supervised nearby in between scratching for worms.

With about a one foot border in front of the viburnum, there should be plenty of room for the petite white, pink and purple alyssum flowers to grow.

Be still my OCD heart. Isn’t it beautiful?

  1. It looks great Mavis, you did a great job, women power :-)
I can see already the Alyssum flowering!

  2. Just beautiful. Have you heard this? “I have CDO, it’s like OCD but it’s in alphabetical order as it should be.”

    Amen and amen!:-)

It looks very nice, I will put that on my list of things to do! If you don’t want weeds to pop up in your rocks, sprinkle some pre-emergent such as corn gluten.

  4. So nice- it will love really pretty this summer.
    Bet your arms are tired!

  5. It looks great! I wish I had your energy!

You are welcome to come to Tennessee and work with the rocks, borders, etc. in our yard any time you run out of things to do in your neck of the country. :-)

  6. I don’t see how you’re even digging in the soil right now– we’re still frozen solid up here in this neck of the woods!

    Looks gorgeous!

  7. Cynthia Byrd says:

You inspire me. This is beautiful!

  8. Dixie Davis says:

Try plain white vinegar in a spray bottle for weeds in rock paths or brick patios. Spray in full sun and let them turn brown and whither. Doesn’t work well on grass but does on broadleaf weeds. Another thing I’ve heard but haven’t yet tried is to sprinkle baking sode in the rocks because it changes the soil ph and nothing will grow there.

  9. Looking good Mavis! I’m excited to see what beautiful things you have in store for us this year.

  10. Looks great! I can’t believe you did that in the cold!

  11. Mavis, your garden is beautiful. I can’t wait for the snow to melt away and reveal my garden to me!!! I love seeing the progress you’ve made. You have also given me lots of inspiration for my garden. Have a great week!

Great blog Mavis! I live in North Florida and have flower beds around our backyard fence. We have Rose of Sharon planted in the beds and are overcome with “winter weeds
” because of recent warm weathr and lots of moisture. Do you know if the vinegar might work on these weeds? Thanks.
