Recipe – How to Make Homemade Tortillas
{Black Bean and Cheese Quesadillas recipe}
Have you ever made homemade tortillas before? If you haven’t you should give them a try. But let me warn you, as soon as you do, you may never want to buy packaged tortillas again.
I first learned how to make homemade tortillas from my friend MamaJJ, and have been making them ever since.
Here is her simple {and delicious} recipe:

Ingredients
2 cups All purpose flour
1 tea Salt
1 1/2 tea Baking powder
2 tea Vegetable oil
3/4 Warm milk
Directions
Mix dry with wet and knead for a few minutes. Cover dough with a dish towel and allow to rest for 20 minutes. Cut dough into 8 pieces, roll out into circles and fry in a cast iron skillet for 45 seconds on each side {I sprayed my pan with Pam first}. Fill with beans and rice. Enjoy!

Homemade tortillas!!! Wow…and here I always thought that they would be so time consuming and complicated, but will have to give them a try. Can you freeze them? Or do you use them fresh? Can you make up a batch a day early? Inquiring minds want to know
Does anyone know if rice milk can be substituted for cows milk? I never have that on hand. Could I sub half the white flout for whole wheat?
I was taught years ago by a friend from Mexico, and she used warm water and shortening. They were great! I would think pretty much any liquid would do. I no longer use shortening, tho.
As for substituting 1/2 whole wheat flour, you have to remember it’s heavier/denser. I’d try 1/3 whole wheat to 2/3 white flour first, and then play with the recipe.
