Have you heard about the buy $100 of partcipating gift cards and get a $20 Albertsons store coupon deal?

I purchased $100  in iTune gift cards {which I would have bought over the next few months anyway} and then used the $20 Albertsons Store coupon to stock up on a few groceries.

I had 2 transactions.

I purchased the gift cards first, and when I spent $100 on the gift cards I received 2,000 Albertsons Preferred Savings Points.  Which in turn bumped my Preferred points to over 5,000 points which triggered a $5 Albertsons store coupon at the bottom of my receipt.  Yee-Haw!

So, in a nut shell, if you have the extra funds available, now would be a great time to snag a few gift cards and get a bag of groceries for next to nothing.  Just remember to buy the gift cards before you buy the groceries.

Here is how I used the $20 coupon to my advantage.

3 gallons Albertsons 2% Milk $2.59 each
1 Everyday Essentials Bacon $3.50
2 Trop50 Orange Juice $2.00 each
11lbs {aprox.} Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts $23.62
Used $1/1 Everyday Essentials coupon {Albertsons Coupon booklet}
Used $20/1 Albertsons Store coupon {from gift card deal}
Used {2} $5 off your next shopping trip Abertsons Preferred Rewards Savings coupons
Final Price: $7.89 oop

*Remember, most stores will not let you use the store coupon on liquid dairy products

iTunes, Sears, Lowe’s, Cabela’s, Applebees, Kohl’s, Bass Pro Shops, JCPenney gift cards are included in this promo.

Will YOU be buying any gift cards this time around to get the $20 coupon?

Mondays with Mavis – How to Feed Your Family For $100 a Month

Well hello there,

How was your weekend?  Did you do anything fun?  Did you score any super fantastic deals at the grocery store or the Farmer’s Market?  I thought I did a pretty job buying groceries last week.  I netted some awesome deals, but most of all I was excited about coming in under my $25 a week budget.  I’m going to need to do that a few more times if I am going to stay on track with my whole one hundred dollars a month food challenge for this year.

Here is what I purchased

Albertsons $7.58

Milk is on sale this week for $2.29 a gallon {I think I need to go back and grab some more} and as I was walking towards the dairy case I noticed Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls were marked down to $1 each.  Hot diggety! The kids were excited.

Albertsons $1.50

Some nice person left a $1/2 Hormel Chili Coupon next to the product.  I love when that happens.

A barter with Chino the Handyman

3 Pounds of ground meat for 4 pain in the neck chickens.  Sounds like a deal to me.

Albertsons $.49

I am really excited to try this pasta!  The vinegar was on sale for $1 and I used a $1 off Everyday Essentials coupon from the Albertsons coupon booklet to get it for free.  The pasta was priced at $4.49 each and on sale for B1G1 FREE.  I won {2} $2 cash tickets from the Albertsons Summer Sizzlin’ Sweepstakes.  I cashed in the tickets and used the earnings to buy the pasta.

Albertsons $6.99

The Handsome Husband wanted bbq last night so I had to run to the store and pick up some chicken.  I paid full price.

Albertsons FREE

Double coupons are pretty stinkin’ awesome if you ask me.  You can read more about this transaction HERE.

Albertsons $1.00

The Awesome paper towels were FREE with the $1/1 Everyday Essentials coupon from the Albertsons coupon booklet, I won a free bagel with the Albertsons Summer Sizzlin’ Sweepstakes, and the Tropicana Orange Juice was $3.00. I doubled the $1 catalina coupon from the above transaction and only had to pay $1 for the orange juice.  Saweeet!

Total Spent This Week $17.66
Total Spent This Year $630.78
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $451.12
Total “Seed Money” donations received $8.00

Looking for a shopping cart?  Amazon currently has the Step2 Little Helper’s Grocery Cart on sale for $34.97 shipped.  This is a really nice and sturdy shopping cart.  I have purchased this cart before as a gift before and stuffed it with crackers and healthy snacks and given it as a gift before.

How to Feed Your Family For One Hundred Dollars a Month – Albertsons Double Coupons

If you live in the Greater Seattle / Tacoma area be sure and check your newspaper today.  A sheet of Albertsons Twice the Value Coupons should be in there.  I have heard conflicting reports that Albertsons double coupons may or may not be in this Sunday’s {Seattle area} newspaper. So if you want to stock up on a bunch of free groceries this week, then either find a good dumpster, stop by Starbucks, or find a local hotel/motel that gives guests a daily newspaper and ask if you can have any discarded ones. This week there are a ton of freebies when you combine your coupons with doublers.

I was able to pick up everything you see above for FREE + I even made $1. Well, actually I’ll be able to double that coupon if I use it before Tuesday, so it was more like I got paid $2 to go grocery shopping today. You can see my match-ups HERE.

*If you buy your newspapers, buy them today.  The Friday paper is only $1.

Happy Shopping!

Hot diggety dog!  The pea plants are starting to flower.  Can you believe it?  I’m hoping we’ll have sugar snap peas in about 2 more weeks.  All I can think about lately is stir fry, stir fry, stir fry.  Oh how I love this time of year.

Last week while I was in Albertsons, I noticed a sign that read “Spend $100 in specific gift cards get a $10 catalina coupon.”  The strange thing was, the sign did not give specifics as to which gift cards were included in the sale. So I went to customer service to find out.  But they didn’t know either.

The only gift card I was really interested in was the one to Home Depot.  Because, hello, the Home Depot is practically our second home and since we shop there on a weekly basis, it tends to be my gift card of choice when these catalina deals come along.  Anyway, to make a long story short, I bought $100 worth of Home Depot gift cards and the catalina did not spit out.  So customer service was kind enough to issue me a catalina.  I would have taken the time to get more gift cards {and more $10 catalinas}, but I was in a hurry.  So I didn’t.  This promo ended 5/24.  When I checked the bottom on my receipt, I noticed I had earned a $5 off my next order coupon as well.  Yee-Haw!

Albertsons $5.12

After purchasing the Home Depot gift cards, I stocked up on pasta sauce {just enough to get us through until we can make our own this summer} milk, bananas and 5 packages of stinky bologna for Monkey Boy.  I used the $10 catalina, and the $5 store coupon and paid $5.12 oop.  I also earned a $4 catalina coupon from the bologna which I used later in the week at QFC.

Albertsons $3.68

Holy crap!  For a second there I thought I was at the airport with prices so high.  Note to self, never buy sweet potatoes out of season.

Target $1.99

Omaha Steaks FREE

The Handsome Husband’s mother sent him his annual care package of meat for his birthday {he’s very old BTW}.  The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird stole his bacon though.  Pretty much anytime bacon enters our house, she swipes it and hides it so no one can find it.  I’d try to hunt it down to get some, but she would just come up with a new hiding place.

Costco $6.85 + Safeway $4.98

I should have paid $1 more for my groceries at Safeway, but the cashier insisted that $.49 off $1.49 twice was $2.  I tried to explain it to her 3 times but she didn’t believe me and finally gave up.  I am not a rocket scientist or anything, but I can do simple math.  Whateva!

Papa Johns Pizza $3.00 {tip}

I have seriously slacked off on Swagbucks lately.  But when I was over there the last time I noticed you can now redeem your Swagbucks for $25 Papa Johns gift cards. No freakin’ way!  Yes way, it’s true.  The total for the pizza came to $23 something.  When you order online and use an e-gift card, you can also apply the remaining gift card balance towards the tip.  Pretty cool if you ask me.  So not only did we get 2 free pizzas, but I used the remaining balance towards the tip {plus gave the pizza guy an additional $3}.  Something tells me I’ll be using my Swagbucks for free pizza from here on out.  What a neat treat!

QFC Shopping Trip $9.07

You can read about this shopping trip HERE.

So basically this was a stock up week.  Let’s hope there will be a few low spending weeks in my near future.  I need to get my yearly spending back on track.

Total Spent This Week $34.69
Total Spent This Year $613.12
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $436.12
Total “Seed Money” donations received $3.00

How did YOU do this week?  Did you splurge on anything good?

Am I the only one out there who thought it was too nice outside last week to clip coupons?  I mean really, it’s okay to put down the scissors every once in a while.  Not every transaction has to be filled with do I really need this… How much does it cost, can I find it cheaper if I spend 15 minutes searching for a better deal.

Sometimes I just want to hop in the car, drive to the grocery store, walk in, buy what I want, and leave.

And that is exactly what I did last week.

Here is what little Miss Lazy Pants purchased last week:

Albertsons $12.91

Costco $29.62

Holy Crack!  Shopping like a normal person with no coupons is expensive!

Albertsons $9.27

Vitacost $ FREE

Have you signed up for Vistacost yet?

When you sign up for Vitacost, the nice people over there will email you a code for $10 off your first order. But it gets even better. Vitacost has a referral program. In fact the links in this post are my referral links. Why am I telling you this? Well, you too can create your own Vitacost referral link and then share your link with family and friends via your blog, email account, Facebook and Twitter pages. When people go through your link, they will get $10 to spend and you will earn $10 to spend. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Unidentified Store $ FREE

Costco $26.07

So, about the cheese.  Sunday morning, the Handsome Husband was complaining that we didn’t have any cheese to go with the salami I had bought a few days earlier.  He said he wanted his favorite Irish cheese.  And since Costco has the best price on Dubliner cheese that’s where I was headed.  But right before I left, he told me I should also pick up some flowers… FLOWERS… for Mother’s Day to display on the table {my parents were coming over for a BBQ}.   I didn’t say anything {I won’t go into it, but I have a BIG issue with buying fresh cut flowers THAT ARE GOING TO DIE}.

So when I got to Costco, I walked right passed the fresh cut flower display, grabbed the requested cheese, then proceeded to the produce section and grabbed a bag of limes.

Why?  Because limes are every bit as beautiful as fresh cut flowers, THEY ARE USEFUL, and they only cost $4.99.

Oh… And about the 2 sticks of butter.  As I was driving home I realized I had forgotten butter.  So I called Girly Girl {she didn’t answer} and told her I was going to break into her house, steal 2 sticks of butter and leave her a few limes on her kitchen counter as payment.

And then I did just that.

Total Spent This Week $77.87
Total Spent This Year $559.57 {I am officially $59.57 over budget for the year}
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $414.90

Looking for a citrus press that works great with lemons and limes?  Check out the Amco Enameled Aluminum Lemon Squeezer.  Amazon currently has it for $9.00!

{Mavis and Buff the Wayward Chicken}

Last week was pretty low key.  I only used 1 coupon. I stocked up on milk and bread, scored some free organic food, and bought a few special ingredients.  But besides that, grocery shopping was pretty much a snooze fest.  It just goes to show you, some weeks are better than others.  It’s okay to slack off and give your coupon scissors a break every once in awhile.

Here is what I purchased, as well as picked up for free last week:

Costco $1.37

The trick to getting out of Costco without spending an arm and a leg is to go in with blinders on.  Walk with purpose, and no matter what, do not grab a cart. Find bananas. Look straight ahead. Go to register. Pay. Leave.  Go home.

Question: How many people do you know that can walk in and out of Costco in 3 minutes or less without spending over $2? I’m telling you, it’s the only way to shop.

* If you decide to go around noon, allow an extra two minutes so you can stop and get free samples.

*Vitacost $ Free

Have you signed up for Vistacost yet? Let me tell you a little secret.

When you sign up for Vitacost, the nice people over there will email you a code for $10 off your first order.  But it gets even better.  Vitacost has a referral program. Fred Meyer $10.34

I need to buy a cow.

Fred Meyer $9.03

And a pig.

Local Produce Stand $2.50

And an avocado tree. Monkey Boy was craving chips and homemade guacamole so like a good mommy I made him some.

Albertsons $3.50

I have a feeling I will be buying a lot more cheese here pretty soon.  Good food is addicting isn’t it?

Unidentified Store $ Free

*Tomorrow I’ll show you what I was able to reclaim from the boxes and what I did with it.

So that’s the skinny on what made it’s way in to my kitchen last week.  How did you do?  Did you finally get up the courage to ask your local store for their “scraps” yet?

Total Spent This Week $26.74
Total Spent This Year $481.70
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $412.40

Looking for some delicious ways to serve up vegetables?  Check out Fast, Fresh & Green By Susie Middleton.  Amazon has it on sale right now for $15.74.

Even though I spent a lot of time playing in the dirt this week, I still managed to squeeze in a few quick shopping trips.  My favorite “shopping” trip last week wasn’t really shopping at all. I mean really, what normal person would consider picking up “chicken scraps shopping? I think it would be more like scavenging wouldn’t you?

I still find the whole topic of food waste amazing, and in my next post I’ll show you what I was able to reclaim from the boxes and what I did with all of it.

But first, here’s what else made its way into our kitchen this week:

Vitacost $3.31

If you have not signed up for Vitacost yet you should.  Not only do they have great prices on dry goods and specialty foods, but when you sign up Vitacost will email you a code for $10 off your first order.  Pretty sweet if you ask me!

Costco $7.49

I need to figure out a way to stock up on flour and sugar before canning season begins.  Once the zucchinis start rolling in I’ll probably go through at least a 25 pound bag of flour for zucchini bread alone.

Track Meet $1.00

Fred Meyer $7.48

Milk was $2.49 a gallon, and the English muffins and sack of bagels were both marked down to $1.25 each.

Albertsons $4.58

Whoop there it is!

Total Spent This Week $23.86
Total Spent This Year $454.96
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $383.40

How did you do this week?  Buy anything good?  Was there any scavenging going on in your neck of the woods?

If you are interesting in reading more about food waste around the world, be sure and check out Waste: Uncovering the Global Food Scandal By Tristram Staurt.  Amazon currently has it on sale for $11.18.
