A few days before Mothers Day I announced “I’d like to go see the Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum on Mothers Day.” Anyone care to guess WHY I wanted to go on Mothers Day? Hmmm… Well I’ll tell you…because admission was FREE of course! And apparently I’m not the only one who put Norman Rockwell and Mother’s Day together…
See this lovely lady I’m standing next to? Well… I was waiting for The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird to come out of the loo when she walked up to me and said “Do you have a coupon blog?”…. I was like Holy Crack!… YES… Yes I do… “Are you Mavis?” Yes… “The glasses were a dead giveaway.” … And well you know me… I couldn’t pull my camera out fast enough So there we were… 2 Moms… on Mothers Day… checking out our main man Norman… Happy as clams not to be washing dishes or folding laundry at that very moment in time.
** Oh and just a note to her very own Handsome Husband: I found it incredibly sweet when your wife pointed you and your beautiful children out that you were not only smiling… but saw the humor/joy in the whole thing… because if I were to go up to some stranger who’s blog I read on the internet who was standing next to the restroom in a museum and introduce myself… my husband would run and hide in the gift shop and then text me to let him know when the coast was clear to come out… and the whole car ride home I’d have to listen to … OH MY WORD… I can’t believe you just went up to her… So it’s nice to know there are husbands out there who are normal. It gives me hope
Oh and this… this is a genuine piece of art if I ever saw one. This is a wreath… made out of silver “recycled blister packaging for pharmaceuticals”… appropriately titled “Drug addiction”.
After we finished up at the Norman Rockwell Museum we headed over to the Museum of Glass…
Oh… and the funniest part of the trip… was when The Girl picked up a dropped/discarded rose from a corsage she found on the ground… she thought it was pretty and decided to take a picture… she thought she had found a treasure and had a big smile on her face until the Handsome Husband shouted “Put that down… do you know how many dogs have peed on that thing?” I was like …seriously?
But the reason we went to the glass museum was to see the children’s glass sculptures. Each year the museum holds a contest… local children submit drawings and a few are eventually selected and made into 3 D glass blown objects…
I can only imagine how cool it must be to have your child’s drawing chosen and to be invited to meet the artist who made your child’s drawing come to life… what a thrill… both for the kid… and the parents.
And that my friends… is my tale of the 2 museums. How about YOU? Did you do anything exciting last weekend?
