When someone tells you “You sure can heat up a meal…” Do you think that’s a compliment? My husband, he sure is a funny guy.
The oven broke last week and we’re still waiting for the new part to arrive. I think it’s supposed to be here tuesday. Fingers crossed the HH was able to troubleshoot correctly and ordered the right part.
I’m glad he’s so handy, because if it were up to me I’d just eat salads and cookies for the rest of my life.
Fact: Yes, you can cook Trader Joe’s frozen mac and cheese in a skillet. 🙂
Who needs a microwave or a toaster oven to heat things up when you have a frying pan? Keep it simple. That’s my motto.
Another day another Trader Joe’s frozen meal.
I did use a sauce pan though to heat up the last remaining can of soup in the house.
Mostly last week we ate big salads, a few freezer meals and a lot of pickety bits. Nothing too exciting.
I was planning on going to Costco to load up on fruit and vegetables, but never made it there. Hopefully we can pop by in the next day or two.
Yada yada yada…
I was out walking the other day when one of my neighbors stopped me and said he had a picture of our barn from about 20 years ago that he wanted to give me.
He said they were filming a movie in town and one of the cars that was in the movie was {stored?} in the barn during filming.
Hang on a second… I’ll go get it. And he did.
And holy cannolis people… LOOK at the barn! It looks like it’s about to fall over!! Clearly the place needed a woman’s touch. And a weed wacker.
The movie, or miniseries rather, was called Empire Falls {with Paul Newman!}. I bought the dvd online and was really excited to watch it.
Then I remembered we gave our tv {and dvd player} away. Whoops. Luckily I can watch it online. Have you seen it? Did you like it?
Fingers crossed the oven gets fixed. I need some chocolate chip cookies!
Have a great monday everyone,
~ Mavis

You should frame the barn photo and hang it in the barn as part of it’s history along with information about the movie/mini series and car for future generations. How cool that neighbor shared that neat photo and the barns history with you!

funny, we have been vacationing to the some place in maine for over 20 years now and they filmed a movie there too and paul newman and robin wright where in it as well, not to mention kevin costner, message in a bottle. alittle sappy, but worth a watch, the songs in it are great.

I cannot believe that is the same barn! Do you think they made it look old for the filming or was it just in that bad of shape?
Mavis Butterfield says
HA HA HA. No, it really looked like that! The upper barn door would have been cool though.

Your husband’s comment about heating up a meal in the microwave could be very sincere! I made my husband’s lunches every day before I went to work – and every day he would tell me they came out terrible when he reheated them in the microwave. The problem, it turned out, was that no matter what it was he was heating he would set it on 4 minutes on high power. I could never talk him out of doing this. He ate whatever it was, too hot and usually dehydrated. And then would always compliment me on the weekend when I heated the soup up just right. Can I insert a roll of my eyes emoji here?

How could we be married to the same man? It can’t be!
Mavis Butterfield says
This is funny! Your husband thinks everything takes 4 minutes to cook. My husband thinks everything can be heated in 1 minute. Guys are weird.

Empire falls, I never saw the series, but I read the book. It was long ago, but I remember enjoying it
