I was out making my usual rounds on the bike the other day when a couple of boys {maybe 8 years old? Maybe 10?} got up from their lawn chairs and proudly held up a HANDMADE sign for me to read as I rode by.
Hot dogs and lemonade! I’ll be back, I told them and then promptly turned my bike around to go home to get some money.
Where else can you get two hot dogs, 2 inches of lemonade and a questionable looking brownie for 8 bucks these days? I just love kids with an entrepreneurial spirit. They are so much fun.
Seriously, how can you not buy something from a kid selling lemonade {or who knows what else!} alongside the road.
The HH thought we got a good deal… So did I. 😉
That’s it. That’s all I’ve got for today.
I hope you have a good one,
~Mavis

I have a son who is 10 and that is a beautiful job. Such a great age where they put in a ton of effort and pride into what they are doing. It is all sweet and innocent. They even had foils and plastic wrap, something that can difficult for that age to handle well. Did you ask them what they were going to do with their profits from their stand? I hope they’re business sold out!

Donating to the fire department. 🙂

That’s awesome!

I will never not stop for a lemonade stand. AND hot dogs? Excellent combo!! My mama would never buy anything but would always donate a $20 bill and the looks on the kids’ faces was priceless.

Last time I stopped at a lemonade stand the young lady handed me my lemonade, took my $10 bill, thanked me and pocketed it. You got better value for your money!

Precious! The hot dogs are a new one for me. Were they served on white bread? So funny. I have to remember to bring a couple dollars when I walk to the grocery store as there is a 50-50 chance there is a stand on the corner around the parking lot.

Those are New England hot dog buns. Very different from the rest of the country. Hubby is from Boston and has lived in California for 45 years, but still misses those hot dog buns!
Sandy says
Back in the day we used to eat them that way in the Chicago Metro area too!

That is absolutely fantastic!! I think this is my favorite post of yours as of late (and I’m a gardener and love the garden posts!)

Same. <3

Cheap Prices! That’s a perfect marketing logo. They had me at the New England hot dog buns. The split top buns seems to be a favourite on the Atlantic seaboard including New Brunswick, Canada where I reside. Met a lady at Walmart with a cart full of the New England buns. She stated she lived in Ontario and could not find these buns west of New Brunswick, so she was stocking up until her next trip.

a hot buttered lobster roll in a new england hot dog bun is the absolute best!

I got a good chuckle when I noticed they took “Apple Pay” as payment. So few people carry cash these days that those young men were smart to think of that. Good job!
Mavis Butterfield says
I thought the apple pay was pretty funny too!

That is absolutely adorable!!!

I never noticed the split on top till I read comments wow I wish the west coast would be that, I did stop for 2 little girls saling home made cookies and lemonade one day I even turned around for them. I like to support them and makes them happy. The same thing with butter cubes. East coast normally has long butter cubes that fit the butter dish perfectly. West coast has the shorter cubes the top both side on top cover that rubs against butter I know that sounds silly but it’s messy. . I learned this when living in North Carolina.

I told my husband today I’m not interests in engaging with anyone I don’t know who comes to the door unless it’s a little kid selling something. Then I’m absolutely on board to overpay for some popcorn, etc.

Those boys were a couple of really great kids, who will probably grow up to be kind, generous really great men some day. And then to donate their profits to the fire department! Their parents should be proud!
When one of my grandsons was about that age, he also had a lemonade and cookie stand at the only gas station for quite a few miles. By the way, he also sold rocks…and they sold quite well. Lots of business people passed by on their way into town, and were quite impressed with his ambition. They would buy a lemonade, and a rock, and tell him to keep the change from a ten or twenty. It really made a young boy’s day, and his Grammie very proud as well! He’s grown up now, but is still very ambitious, and a hard worker.
