One of my favorite things to do when I’m in another country is grocery shopping! Call me weird but I just love seeing what’s stocked on the shelves and what the prices of things are.
Yesterday we were in Southern England and near the Southampton Costco so we decided to pop in to have a look around.
And yes, just like pretty much any Costco here in the states, there was a line outside the door 20 minutes before the store opened.
As soon as we got through the doors, it looked just like any other Costco. Until it didn’t. 🙂
Here are a few of my favorite finds:
I should have grabbed a jar of this marmalade.I love this brand!
If you are a Cadbury egg lover, this was probably the deal of the century.
I grabbed a 6 pack of the chocolate covered ones. NO idea how I’m going to get those home. But at that price, I had to have them. {Currently 1 British pound is equivalent to $1.35 USD.
Skimmed milk.
Jersey milk… A huge price difference!
Spray cream {or squirty cream like the sign says} just sounds fun, don’t you think?
500 grams of butter is the US equivalent of 17.16 ounces. So 4.49 x 1.35 = $6.06 USD for a little over a pound of butter.
The WYKE brand was much more expensive. I wonder if this is like the butter prices here in the US. Costco brand vs Kerry Gold? Anyone know if WYKE butter is a higher quality butter?
The UK Costco chickens were much, much smaller than the ones here in the US. Hmm… I wonder why. 😉
And honestly, their meat looked better too.
And you can buy a whole duck there too!
I love little salami sticks. I wish we had these here at home.
They’re pretty serious about their olives too.
55 pounds of sugar for $22 USD.
35 pounds of flour for $19.56. I don’t buy flour or sugar in those quantities anymore. Is that a deal or about the same as we would pay here in the US?
CHEAP! My husband bought 2 shirts!!
These were a deal too {but he didn’t buy any}.
Holy crackers people!!! Talk about an amazing price for batteries. $12.93 USD for 48 batteries seemed like a really good deal.
Costco shopping in the UK – is so much fun. It was especially fun to see what the Southampton store was offering in the food court.
Weenies and a coke are still 1.50 and pizza is 9.99 {pounds not dollars}. Just like in Canada where you could get the same deal but in Canadian dollars.
The washers and dryers {and combos} are smaller there.
And so are the refrigerators. Which I actually prefer.
You can also get some pretty amazing deals on plants. Check out the bases of these grape vines!
Want to grow some olives in back yard? Costco has you covered. You can buy a small {3 liter} olive tree for 19.99.
Or a 250 liter olive tree {!!!} for 299 pounds. Crazy!!!
Costco shopping in the UK… It was so much fun!!

I’ve brought McVites home from Northern Ireland in my carry-on luggage with little damage. A tasty treat!

I’m on the hunt for the Polo coconut biscuits. They are so hard to find!

Jersey cows produce A2 milk which is easier to digest. Many times people with an intolerance to lactose can use A2 milk.

Look for Namberrie black tea – an ordinary “grocery store” tea that we like and bring back to the States from the UK.
