I was walking through Harrod’s yesterday with my mother when this banana bowl caught my eye. Why it caught my eye I have no idea {maybe I was wondering who on earth would buy such a thing?}.
Anyway, it turns out I must have good taste because the banana bowl, actually a Bordallo Pinheiro Banana Madeira Centerpiece Bowl, was priced at £1175 {$1,575 USD}.
It made me laugh. But not out loud of course, we were in Harrods afterall and so I looked at it admittedly and walked on.
Later in the day we passed by one of my favorite kitchen stores in London, and there the banana bowl was again. THE SAME BOWL!!
I asked the sales clerk how much the bowl was and she proudly replied £595.
Nearly half price!!! I couldn’t believe it. It looked like the same exact bowl to me. So why the price difference? Was it simply because the other bowl was sold at Harrods? Seriously?
When we got back to the hotel I did a quick search online to see if I could find any pricing. And sure enough, it was the exact same bowl!!
I guess it pays to shop around. Even in London. 😉

*I am not going home with a banana bowl. I think I’ll just stick to admiring bananas in their natural state on the kitchen counter when I get home.

When I was 19, I got an American Express card and back then, this was 1989, they would send out travel package deals. I lived in a one caution light rural, RURAL SC town and got a mailer advertising a 3 night trip to London, air fare and hotel stay and breakfast for $199. MT little country bumpkin self went straight to Harris’s as it was mentioned in the mailer and holy cow, what an experience that was!! I had never seen such a spectacle and soaked up every floor. I remember buying some pickled quail eggs for an uncle who loved to hunt quail. Oh to be 19 and dumb again…

Madeira! My homeland. My entire ancestry comes from this beautiful little Portuguese island off the Moroccan coast. I mean I still wouldn’t buy the bowl but I love to see Madeira represented

We were at Harrod’s a few years ago. My husband and granddaughter ordered some fancy ice cream . Cost was around $50.00! Guess we do crazy things on vacation!

I followed the online link. Apparently, even Harrod’s doesn’t know what to put in that thing. Snerk!
