I think there is a difference between being in a food rut and being content to eat basically the same thing day in and day out, don’t you?
Steel cut oats prepared in the rice cooker, yogurt with berries, what more do I need to start my day?
Last year it was toast or oatmeal, this year I’ve {mostly} dropped the toast and picked up Greek yogurt. And I think that’s a good thing.
In fact, I think we’re eating healthier than we ever have before. By simply eating salads four times a week {sometimes even more} as our main meal, we’re getting in more vegetables than we ever have before.
Sometimes it’s not even that. 😉
It’s amazing to me how much our metabolisms have slowed down in recent years. I wonder what they’ll be like 10 years from now. Getting old is weird.
Costco $61.93
Pecans rule. I like using them in baked goods rather than walnuts. {And salads too.}
Local Grocery Store $3.49
$3.49 for a head of butter lettuce. What does this go for in your neck of the woods?
I don’t normally buy butter lettuce but I bought it so I could re-create the burrata and prosciutto salad with pesto and cantaloupe I had at Harrods.
It kind of has a dry taste to it, don’t you think? It’s good for sandwiches and salads though.
Market Basket $44.55
Yesterday’s stock up trip to Market Basket. I asked the HH to grab some potatoes so we could have baked potatoes with bacon and sour cream for dinner tonight.
Doesn’t that sound good? I don’t think we’ve had one all summer.
The potatoes were “on sale” for 5 pounds for $2.99. Remember when you could get a 10 pound bag for $0.99?
And cantaloupes are priced by the melon now {$2.99} and not the pound.
Zucchini, peppers and sausage, you can never go wrong with that.
And last but not least, a batch of rocky road brownies for tea time. It was a good food week. Sort of boring and predictable, but also quick and easy.
And this time of year, quick and easy is good!
Anything new on YOUR plate these days? Or are you happy eating the same meal over and over again?

My Italian mother used to make zucchini and scrambled eggs. So good! One can also make a zucchini and egg frittata. Simple and delicious. I make it all the time.

Butter lettuce here in the Charlotte area is $3.19 at one store and $3.99 at another, so your price is good. I’m 57, so I totally relate to the metabolism changes. My dinner of choice is half an English cucumber chopped up with some chopped up chicken breasts (that were marinated in Hawaiian Jerk marinade), a few croutons and some balsamic vinaigrette. I probably have this 5 dinners a week and at least 3 lunches a week. Never gets old.

Mavis how are you cooking your zucchini, sausage, and peppers? It looks so good.

Just a little EVOO in a frying pan. 🙂 So good!

My new breakfast is egg bites made in a muffin pan with 8 eggs, 1 cup cottage cheese, 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, put through a blender then add 3-4 ounces diced ham. Bake at 350° F for 20 minutes. Good hot or cold.

Pecans! Costco hasn’t had them the last few times I’ve been.

Yes! Agree with pecans over walnuts.

How do you stay so slim eating all that you do, I am jealous. I rarely eat breakfast as I leave the house at 7am. When I get home I eat left overs from the night before. On weekends it is my own eggs on toast, or beans on toast or eggs and bacon.
Wish I could get my HH to eat salads like yours does, if I give him a cupful, he says it is too much.
Interesting food this week is the Ground Wagyu beef, the shelter could not use as their wasn’t enough to make a meal for 200 so I made Beef Stroganoff with it and took it to our Ambulance service offices for their lunch. I kept a cup for me and my HH for tonights dinner, maybe I can get him to eat salad with it??
