The first thing I did when I woke up this morning was check the weather app on my phone to see what the weather was going to be like today.
A low of 49 degrees! It’s been a while since I’ve seen that.
I don’t know about you, but I feel like my days working outside in the garden are numbered.
Even though I’m totally ready to pack it all in and stay inside and work on house things and make something warm and tasty in the oven, I also know I need to take advantage of these last few weeks before the weather really makes a turn.
Maine. I love it here. And I especially love that all four of the seasons {five if you count mud season} are all so distinct.
Even though I know I’ve still got a few good weeks left, I’m already making plans to slow it down, and spend some time catching up on all the movies, and books I’ve missed while I work on some new rug hooking designs.
And that’s where YOU come in. 🙂
I’m hoping you can help me fill in my movie/mini series with what books to listen to this fall/winter season. I plan on getting not only a lot of hooking in this winter, but painting too.
Here’s what I’ve come up with so far.
Acorn TV – What to watch? My plan is to sign up for a 7 day free trial and binge watch a few shows.
Brit Box – What to watch? The plan is to sign up for a 1 month subscription for $10.99.
Movies To Watch
Miniseries To Watch
- Belgravia
- Doc Martin Season 10 – I bought the dvd but still haven’t watched it.
Books
- Food For Thought – Alton Brown
- The Splendid and The Vile – Erik Larson
Thanks in advance for your help. I plan on updating/adding to this list as suggestions come in.
Have a great day everyone,
~Mavis

I’ve been watching Rosemary & Thyme on the free Tubi app. It’s an older show about two middle aged gardeners who stumble on murders at every job they take. Lighthearted & easy to have on in the background. Tubi also has Midsommer Murders. And I really enjoyed both Vera & Shetland on BritBox. I don’t know if BritBox or Acorn has Broadchurch, but that show is fantastic!

I actually have the DVD Series for Rosemary & Thyme! It’s a good series!
TUBI is free, too!

Oh! I’m pretty sure it was Tubi that has Death At a Funeral – such a funny movie with great Brit humor! Pretty sure it’s from the 90s. It’s timeless & I laughed so hard.

If you can handle subtitles (or know French), I would suggest MHzChoice. (I’m not sure how subtitles would work while rug hooking.) My favorite show so far has been The Art of Crime (https://watch.mhzchoice.com/the-art-of-crime/season:1) from France. I believe you may be able to watch the first season on some other services.

I have an Acorn TV subscription and it’s one of the only ones I still have. I’m currently watching Irish Blood. Midsomer Murders is a longtime favorite. I love the British dark humor. I enjoyed the Agatha Raisin series, they’re silly mysteries but fun. I’m about the start The Madame Blanc series this weekend as a good friend just recommended it.

I’m currently reading ebook novels by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It’s hard to pick a favorite but I highly recommend “Michael Without Apology” and “Have you Seen Luis Velez?” and “Ask Him Why”. Her books pull me in and make me care. And think.

We really enjoyed Ludwig and Patience. Also Brokenwood Mysteries is kinda like a NZ version of Midsummer Murders if you like that show. Death is Paradise is good too — nothing too heavy. If you like a darker mystery series, you can’t go wrong with Vera or Shetland. I
