bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
Yesterday it was 74 degrees and there wasn’t a beach umbrella in sight. The tourists… They’ve gone home. Most of them anyway.
I am constantly amazed at the products Costco sells. I’ve always wanted a fiddle leaf fig tree!!! What a deal. Unfortunately I have NO place to put one. 🙁
Remember all those beautiful tulips I grew this past spring? Well I just remembered I ordered 500 more of them and they’ll be arriving soon. Yikes!
I have no idea where I’m going to put them. Maybe along the side of the house? In front of the picket fence?
I wasn’t too impressed with the way the peasant’s eye daffodils came up last spring so maybe I’ll move those and plant the tulips there instead. Daffodils do seem to do better on year two though so I don’t know.
Decisions decisions.
One thing I know though is what I’ll be doing this weekend.
Here’s what’s on my list so far:
- Making a new rug video
- Painting
- Cutting, folding and listing wool in my Etsy shop
- Working on secret project #2
- Walking and {electric} biking around town like a nutter. An electric bike still counts as exercise, right? If I put it on the lowest setting I’m still exercising different muscles than if I was walking, don’t you think?
Sadly, there will be no time for clubbing this weekend. 🙁
How about YOU? What’s on your list for the weekend? I hope it invoices a slice of pie or some other tasty treat.
Have a great weekend everyone. Try and stay out of trouble.
~Mavis

It’s going to be 90 here this weekend. So it’ll be early morning walks for the dog and then sitting in front of the AC while working on projects for Christmas. I might bake some apple bread too.

I’m planning to can some salsa this weekend and went looking for your salsa recipe. Found it – and also found the post about buying the used/mostly unused Weck jars and started wondering if you’d brought them with you when you moved. I can’t believe you wouldn’t have – they’re wonderful jars – but I’ve not seen mention of them lately and decided I had to ask. Inquiring minds want to know.

Yes! I still have them all. I have BIG plans for them too. 🙂

Mavis, do you use a specific company for bulbs? It seems like so many have mixed reviews. Your tulips are incredible and I’d love to plant some reliable spring flowers!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! This is the company I’ve bought from for the past 10 years or so. https://www.vanengelen.com/

What is the company that you bought the pink tulips from? They are gorgeous!! I wanted to mention that I am currently reading Eric Larson’s “The Splendid and the Vile”. It is a fascinating book at an intimate level of Sir Winston Churchill and how he carried much of the weight of WWII on his shoulders. It is the kind of book you want to read slowly to remember the names, locations and events. I am hoping to find a specialized tour to the UK that would chronical the events of WWII. Enjoy reading!

Can you tell us the name of those tulips please? They are beautiful!

Amazing Grace Tulips.

Do tulips come back each year in Maine? Unfortunately, they are treated like an annual here in 7B and it’s a lot of work to plant them each year. So many beautiful colors to choose from! At least the daffodils come back here.
Mavis Butterfield says
They have come back in every garden I’ve planted them here. 🙂
