I’ve always loved the colonial look and ever since moving to the East Coast, I’ve wanted a house with a colonial door.
I think they call them “storm” doors here. You typically see them on old cape and colonial style homes and there’s just something about them that I love.
Maybe it’s the old hardware, or maybe it’s because the doors are just begging to be decorated with something simple.
I don’t know, but when we were making plans for the studio I told the HH that I really wanted a colonial door and well, he’s been making my dreams come true for 31 years. Why would he stop now?
Not wanting to interrupt him, I made myself scarce while he was building the door. When I finally went over to the studio to have a peek the thing was MASSIVE {and heavy too!}.
He wanted to make sure it fit, so he made it a wee bit longer than he needed to figuring he’d be able to cut it to the perfect length.
His method to trimming the door seemed a little questionable to me, but in the end it all worked out fine. Everyone still has all their fingers and toes. 🙂
Getting that perfect fit.
I’m glad he likes wood working! Ha. I wouldn’t have had a clue how to build a door let alone attach it to the house.
In the end I chose Benjamin Moore’s “bird”s egg” for the door color.
I wanted something soft and dreamy that would go with all the different seasonal decorations I plan on hanging up.
Seriously!? How cute is this door? I took the picture before the door handle was put on {I couldn’t wait!} and I absolutely LOVE how it turned out.
He did such a good job, don’t you think?
My sweet husband, if you are reading this… I think you are AWESOME. You always seem to know how to turn my dreams into reality.
I’ll see you soon.
XOXO

Mavis, the door looks fabulous. Will you please give us the details on the wreath? It looks perfect against the color of the door. Great job Mr. HH!

I can’t wait to see the door handle … or maybe going without is a message to folks that the place is no longer a commercial opportunity for people to wander in! LOL
Mavis, I was just re-reading your post from years ago about Woodstock VT … so many of your dreams have come true! Being able to walk out your door and be downtown (I think?), colonial homes, etc. So happy to be along for the ride. This morning I thought “oh, I hope it’s not just a random photo Friday!” and thank you for giving us an entire post about the front door. Perfect shade of color against the white.
