Pareidolia : the tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern.
I was putting some bacon on a cookie sheet this morning when I noticed something was staring back at me. What does it mean!? I see “things” all the time in other objects and wonder what percentage of people see the world through the same type of lens.
I wish I knew.
I’ve always been like this and I have no idea why.
Tell me what you see. I want to know if it’s the same thing I saw, or if I’m going crazy.

Moray eels!
Erin says
I see it too! I’m the same way & notice things like this everywhere. I’ve heard that more often than not it’s a neurodivergent brain that this happens to (adhd, adhd-i, dyslexia, autism, OCD, etc.). Others will likely see it if it’s pointed out, but from what I understand, the ND brain will see it more often “in the wild.”
christina says
That is so interesting about ND brains. I have always seen faces in trees. Weird. I’ve only come to realize that I must be ND, and have been for years.
Kim says
I see baby brachiosaurus heads, 3 of them
Carrie says
Well I definitely spotted the face right off. Couldn’t exactly label it though. But I can see it as a moray eel now that it was mentioned.
Dawn says
I see Nessie! or a moray eel now that it has been pointed out. I see things like this all the time too. I’m curious about the link to ND as I have ADHD.
Have a great weekend!

Snakes!
Kath says
I see them. Whales? Snakes? Eels?
My mother-in-law and I have always picked out creatures and shapes in the flickering embers of family camp fires. And I have been seeing creatures and shapes in clouds since I was a child. Our kitchen window looks into our enclosed porch which has knotty pine walls and there is an alien face looking back at me from the knots on one of those boards.
Lesley says
Immediate eels!
Andrea says
I “see” things in patterns all the time, too! So interesting. I see eels, but the 2nd pieces are cow heads in profile.
Mavis Butterfield says
I didn’t see the cow heads… But now I do!! So funny.
Mark says
I immediately saw the faces and my brain went to snakes
Lisa Riggenbach says
I see dinosaur heads – I see faces in trees and random pieces of wood all the time!
