If you are in the market for some sturdy, well made floating shelves, you may want to pop by your local Costco and check these Acadia wood floating shelves.
Ever since we started working on the front room I’ve been on the hunt for a set of four simple floating shelves for the wall behind the door.
The size I was looking for {30” x 7”} was kind of tricky to find ready-made at the local home improvement stores so I was going to order some off Etsy.
But then my husband sent me a picture from Costco of some shelves that were on sale.
I knew instantly they’d be too deep {9.5” deep, I needed 7” deep} but he was so impressed by the quality and the price so he brought them home anyway.
They were indeed really nice, but TOO DEEP!
The mounting hardware was nice too!
I threw up some tape on the wall and held up the shelves to show him they were too deep.
Mavis: They aren’t going to work, they’re too deep.
HH: But they were such a good deal.
Mavis: And I can appreciate that but it’s not a good deal if they stick out awkwardly and don’t look right.
So back and forth we went.
Him on his “great deal” and me on insisting the size was not right.
Then finally I suggested that he trim off a couple of inches {2.5 inches to be exact} and then they’d be the right depth.
HH: I can’t do that! I don’t have a table saw.
Mavis: Don’t you have a skill saw? Use that.
HH: That won’t work. It’s not that easy. It will tear up the front of the wood.
Mavis: Umm… There’s this stuff called sandpaper?
Blah blah blah.
Mavis: I’d rather waste $30 finding out than paying big bucks for custom made shelves. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. I’ll used the wood for something else. But what if it does!?
And then I went back to painting the window trim. And he left the room.
A few minutes later he walks back into the room, grabs a floating shelf and heads out to the barn. 🙂
I say nothing. Continue painting.
Then after a few minutes I hear the saw and another minute later he walks in with the floating shelf and what do you know…
Four floating shelves {in the depth that I wanted} for $60. Hot dog!
I think they look pretty awesome.
Now I can sit in my chair and not only have a shelf for my tea and scissors while I watch a movie, but I have three more to put stuff on too.
Well done HH! I think we make a good team. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Next on the agenda: Continue stripping the beams, touch up the walls and paint the baseboards.
Hopefully by this time next week we’ll be installing curtains in the front room. Cozy English cottage/Seaside home here we come!

Brilliant! love you two and all the back and forth – but I’m really here to comment on that Yak fur chair! I think I had a coat like that in 1970! LOL Where on earth did that come from???!!!

The beams are looking great. The shelves add more character and were a great deal, but that chair- wow! I have never seen one like it. I want to sit in it with a fluffy blanket and my embroidery. What’s the story behind the chair? It’s fantastic.

Yes, surely there’s a chair story to come …
