Living in a small town in Maine is pretty awesome.
I love where we live. It’s like the best kept secret.
George Bailey would have approved of the place, that’s for sure.
This past weekend everyone in town {and then some} came together to light the lobster trap tree.
There were fire pits and baked goods and tons of holiday cheer.
Choir members from the church sang Christmas carols. The fire station served refreshments.
Local business owners set up tables and served up local favorites like chili and oysters. All at no cost.
Where does that happen anymore?
Familiar faces, neighbors that say hello, church bells, holiday bazaars. No big box stores, no chain restaurants. Mom and pop places all the way.
This, my friends, is the good stuff.
Plus, thanks to old man winter, we have SNOW on the ground! And it’s sticking around.
The Christmas season, it has finally begun. And I couldn’t be happier.
Wishing you the best of Mondays from the coast of Maine.

Yes, small town living is THE best! Attended our town Christmas Party yesterday complete with horse drawn wagon rides, a visit from Santa, crafts and scrumptious potluck lunch. Love our small town where there are only 4 local businesses- a brewery, auto shop, veterinary and a gun shop

I was scrolling through the lovely pictures and then I saw it, The Major Award! And I burst out laughing! How nice your husband has a place to put it. I bet the neighbors get a kick out of it. Your town looks lovely, you are so fortunate. My son lives in Maine and they live in a lovely little community.

To answer your question – The Hallmark movie channel is the only place on earth where this happens!

Nicely done, HH! It all looks so lovely. Thanks for sharing the snow, it’s a pipe dream over here in the soaked West Coast under an atmospheric river.

I too live in a small town with charming Christmas traditions. We too have free food at our tree lighting. Churches provide Brunswick stew and cupcakes while the coffee shop provides coffee and cocoa. Unfortunately this year, we didn’t have snow but heavy rain that resulted in cancellation of our tree lighting. 🙁 We were all so disappointed. Loved the lobster tree. Around here, we have crab pot trees!
Your houses look lovely and it seems the leg lamp has found the perfect spot! Congratulations on all your beautiful changes and decorations and for sharing them with us!

I love the whole thing – and the lamp leg – glad your husband got a little bit of his flavor in the decorations too!!
My neighborhood has a Christmas golf cart parade and it’s turned into quite a thing. We have a cookie party at someone’s house directly afterward and it’s fun. It’s just so much fun. That’s the spice of life to me. <3
Merry Christmas!

How absolutely Christmas!!!! I remember growing up in small town in OH. The decorations all over the town and across the streets like the scenery in “A Christmas Story”. From 3rd grade through high school we lived in CT.
The Christmas memory there was our 1790’s Congregational Church across from the town green. There were electric.candles in the windows of the whole church every night. My family decorated the outdoors with a partridge in a pear tree. Using speckled corduroy from a jumper Mom sewed for me, they covered styrofoam partridge Dad cut from a block. I could look out my window and see it from bed. We still have it and use it along with the plastic and plaster of Paris of Paris pears I sprayed gold and added large glitter.
Now living in Spokane, WA we took our grandchildren to see ‘The Nutcracker” yesterday and it was wonderful to see people dressed up in all their finery! Christmas is indeed magical

Sounds lovely and perfect! My town…city… has grown so much, oh the traffic! It is so hard! I crave more quiet and less traffic. If we weren’t so ‘tied’ here, I would definitely be looking for something different even if we have never lived anywhere else. Your home is so sweet and inviting.
