Get Back To The Basics + Learning to Unplug
Not a second was wasted this past week. I love when I have stretches of time like that. š
I have started listening to audiobook cdās again {it helps me from picking up my phone} and need to pop by the library for some more. This past week I listened to Empty Mansions. I’ve listened to it before {several times actually}.
Overall, it was a great week. We ate well, went on a mini adventure and got a ton of work done.
In The Kitchen
We tried the pre-packaged beef bourguignon from Costco and it was no bueno.
Well, I suppose thatās a matter of opinion, right? Let me put it this way, if you like the quality of the beef in Dinty Moore Beef Stew youād probably like it.
I gave it 1 out of 10 stars. The 1 is because it was edible {technically}. I had one bite and portioned out the rest for Miss Lucy {who loved it}.
Kitchen Goals For This Year
- Master the pear frangipane tart from Standard Baking Company.
- Put my Weck jars to use.
- Use two bins of beans.
Rug Hooking
I added some more wool to my Etsy shop over the weekend and have been dyeing wool non-stop. If I can keep up the pace, I will be done by the end of the month.
Maybe even a week early {dare I say that out loud?}.
I also finished 2 more pillows and 1 mini rug for my next round of finished goods {which Iām hoping to list on March 31st}.
Rug Hooking Goals For This Year
- Finish drawing out all my patterns, making kits, dyeing wool by March 31st. {80% done!!!}
- Release 10 new rug hooking patterns/kits. {3 down 7 to go}
- Hook 27 of the patterns from the “someday I’ll hook these” bin. {4 down 23 to go}
Go New Places – See New Things
This past week we went to Boston for a quick overnight visit and one of the places we stopped at was selling ābread endsā.
Iāve never seen that before, have you?
The bread didnāt exactly look like bread ends to me but what do I know. If I wasnāt on a pastry binge I probably would have bought a bag just to try all the different varieties.
Also, a 10 armed starfish. Have they always had 10 arms? I really like the shape. I’m going to try and work it into a rug.
*NYC is still a go. I need to research restaurants.
Travel Goals For This Year
- Travel someplace {internationally} that I’ve never been before.
- Travel somewhere in Maine {overnight} that I haven’t been before.
Places I’ve Been So Far This Year
- Boston {Birthday getaway}
Walk And Stretch More
Happy days are here again!! Yesterday I not only went for a bike ride, but on a nice walk with the HH as well.
It was 55 degrees yesterday here in Maine! How crazy is that!?
There is still plenty of snow on the ground but {most of} the sidewalks are clear and will be for the foreseeable future so itās time to GET OUTSIDE!
With only two months to go until the half marathon, I need to get in shape. Thank goodness itās starting to warm up around here.
Walking/Stretching Goals For This Year
- Get into some sort of stretching routine
- Fast walk a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon {signed up for a half marathon}
Garden
Look at this!!! Is that mulch and teeny tiny bit of grass? Yes, yes it is.
It wonāt be long now until we switch to full on gardening mode. I am predicting all the snow will be melted and out of sight by April 7th.
Iāve told a few people about my prediction and they all think Iām being a little hopeful. Weāll see about that. š
I was supposed to get my peppers planted last weekend, but got sidetracked so I think Iāll do that today.
Also, the chives and lavender I started from seed are doing really well. Iāll have to remember to snap a picture for you.
Garden Goals For This Year
- Rework the driveway and garden areas
- Go crazy and plant a ridiculous amount of flowers
- Step out of my comfort zone and plant some flowers Iāve never planted before.35
Paint
There was absolutely NO painting done this past week {but the shamrocks are up!}. I am so hyper focused right now on getting all the wool dyed, drawing patterns and putting together kits by April 1st itās not even funny.
I almost didnāt do the overnight in Boston because I didnāt want to take 30 hours off from āproduction modeā but Iām glad I did. Projects. Especially house ones, all have a season. Iām hoping spring is the gardening and painting season.
Do you live in a colder climate? Do you still have snow on the ground? If so, when do you think it will be gone?
Have a great day today everyone, I hope itās a productive one!

Good morning – and many happy returns to you!
Where in Boston did you see the starfish? I will be there in April to see my little granddaughter and we would love to see that too…

Happy Belated Birthday!! I like the water photo and the sky. Empty Mansions does sound interesting, just borrowed it from the library, will read on my iPad. The written copy has over 70 photos.
Snow has been gone a little while, grass is starting to turn green

It’s a fascinating story that I keep coming back too. I hope you like it.
