The HH was in charge of ALL meals this past week. {How did I get so lucky!?} One of his favorite things to make lately are toasted salami sandwiches.
I’m not a big bread person {and by that I mean giant hoagie rolls, or fluffy filler type bread} so he’ll make a sandwich and put 2/3rds of it on his plate and 1/3rd on mine and it seems to be just the right amount.
Beecher’s mac and cheese {a freezer meal from Costco we picked up last week}. The box says 6 servings, but when it’s your main meal of the day it really works out to be 4 servings.
Mac and cheese is one of those things that really only tastes good if it’s homemade. I’ve been using my favorite recipe for years.
But Beecher’s mac and cheese breaks that rule. It’s rich and creamy and tastes like the real deal. I hope Costco doesn’t stop selling it because we both love it.
Another thing the HH loves, is the Motor City Pizza from Costco.
He bought one a few months ago and says it’s the BEST frozen pizza on the planet. Now every time we go to Costco he wants to buy it.
I had a bite the first time he bought the pizza and wasn’t impressed. But what do I know?
He also made nachos.
And while he was busy eating his man food last week, I was busy eating the Costco chicken salad I love so much {I love it SO MUCH that I had it three days in a row!}.
I mean really, what more does one need? Oatmeal for breakfast, some sort of salad for linner and cookies {or pastries!} for an afternoon snack.
Market Basket Shopping Trip $38.26 {avocados not pictured}
St. Patrick’s Day is coming up. Will you be having corned beef? It looks like we are. 🙂 I have total tunnel vision right now and all I can focus on is wool so the HH has taken it upon himself to do all the cooking.
Which actually works out great because if I don’t want what he’s making I can order take out.
Which really means I let himhim what I’d like, he takes the stuff out of the fridge or cupboards and makes it for me. 🙂
Because of this awesome setup I kind of don’t want wool season to end. Except that I do.
Trader Joe’s Shopping Trip $51.68
I went with the HH to the butcher’s yesterday {ie: Dermatologist} and afterwards we stopped by Trader Joe’s.
Fact: They have the best avocados. And their sourdough bread and crumpets are pretty good too. {And they also freeze well in case you were wondering.}
Have you tried their jelly beans? $5.49 seems a little steep so I’m curious if they’re worth it. If you’ve tried them please let us know.
After Trader Joe’s we stopped by Costco.
The HH went his way and I went to check on salad salad kits. When I found him he had a giant sack of Cheetos under his arm and was looking for something to grill.
I don’t know why but I thought it was hilarious.
Before I even made it to the salad kits I stopped to check the pack dates on the extra vegetables I’d be buying for the salad kits.
The pack date on the cucumbers was February 28th!! We were at Costco yesterday {March 12th!}.
12 day old cucumbers? Eh. No thanks.
We didn’t buy any out of season tomatoes or week and a half old peppers either. Lame. Do you check the pack date when you buy produce? If not, you may want to start checking.
The best lettuce I could find was 7 days old.
I went ahead and bought it because the salad kits didn’t look good {again!} and I knew we’d likely finish off the lettuce in the next day or two.
Once we get the yard done I seriously need to look into getting some sort of greenhouse. Or a local place that sells fresh produce this time of year. Or just stick to eating apples, squash and potatoes until late spring.
Costco Shopping Trip $49.84
The HH wanted the meatballs. I wouldn’t say I’m a betting woman… But I bet they’re not going to taste good.
I guess I’ll find out this afternoon though because the resident chef said we’ll be having meatballs and asparagus for linner today. 😉
Some weeks it’s fruit, cheese and nutritious things and other weeks, not so much.
That’s just the way it goes.
Hey! It’s the weekend already. Can you believe it? I hope you have a good one. I’ll be here just dyeing wool and drinking copious amounts of tea. 😉
Peace Out.

Did you know…conventional produce is frequently treated with fungicides, both in the field to prevent mold and post-harvest to maintain freshness during transport. Key findings show that 75% of conventional produce samples contain pesticide residues, with fungicides like fludioxonil being among the most common. I guess this is why they can sell them weeks after harvest!

Motor City pizza is a fave in our house. Those meatballs are good but I was disappointed by how few there were in the box, mostly sauce. And yes, especially at Costco check the dates and dig in the back! They get such big amounts in sometimes it is really old.
