Get Back To The Basics + Learning to Unplug
Who needs tv when you live with Lucy the puggle dog!?
I was saving pistachio shells for an upcoming craft project. I had set them on a chair, went outside to throw something in the recycling bin and by the time I got back she had pulled the bag of shells off the chair and had chewed through the bag.
What a naughty little pup! But she is SO MUCH fun.
In other news, it was a good week for unplugging… 6 out of 7 days this past week. I didn’t waste time on the internet or my phone and stayed pretty focused.
Turning the ringer on my phone helps tremendously.
In The Kitchen
The HH is in charge of cooking for the rest of the month so I can stay focused on getting all my wool projects done.
Yesterday’s linner was …. Interesting. Beans, weenies and avocado. Umm, okay.
Kitchen Goals For This Year
- Master the pear frangipane tart from Standard Baking Company.
- Put my Weck jars to use.
- Use two bins of beans.
Rug Hooking
This past week I added some more wool to my Etsy shop. With only two more weeks to go, I am crazy focused on getting everything done so I can be done and focus on gardening season.
The landscapers will be here in a few weeks to rip out the driveway and grade the yard for us. I am SO EXCITED about this I can hardly stand it.
All I want to do is get the rest of the wool dyed, kits made and patterns drawn so we can move on to the next three major projects… The driveway, sanding the floors and then planting a garden.
Rug Hooking Goals For This Year
- Finish drawing out all my patterns, making kits, dyeing wool by March 31st. {85% done!!!}
- Release 10 new rug hooking patterns/kits. {3 down 7 to go}
- Hook 27 of the patterns from the “someday I’ll hook these” bin. {4 down 23 to go}
Go New Places – See New Things
I didn’t go anywhere new {NYC with Jen in the spring is still a go} but I did pull out my bike and go for a couple of rides last week {some in my snowsuit, some not}.
One day the weather is sunny and nearly 50 degrees and the next it’s 32 and snowing. Ahh March in Maine. You’ve gotta love it.
Travel Goals For This Year
- Travel someplace {internationally} that I’ve never been before.
- Travel somewhere in Maine {overnight} that I haven’t been before.
Places I’ve Been So Far This Year
- Boston {Birthday getaway}
Walk And Stretch More
The HH and I have been getting out and walking more which has been really nice. We also stopped by the library and loaded up on books.
If you love flowers, French Blooms by Sandra Sigman is pretty dreamy.
Walking/Stretching Goals For This Year
- Get into some sort of stretching routine
- Fast walk a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon {signed up for a half marathon}
Garden
There isn’t much to do outside yet as we are still waiting for all the snow to melt. Last fall we covered the boxwoods out front with burlap and I’m happy to report they did okay.
Not super fantastic, but pretty good considering how much snow we had.
The HH said he is going to build a bunch of wooden a-frames to cover the boxwoods so they don’t get damaged. I think we’ll still have to wrap them in burlap as well though to be extra safe.
Garden Goals For This Year
- Rework the driveway and garden areas
- Go crazy and plant a ridiculous amount of flowers
- Step out of my comfort zone and plant some flowers I’ve never planted before
Paint
We didn’t get around to doing any painting but we finally hung a floating shelf in the bathroom. We were going to install two shelves but decided one was enough.
The shelves came from Costco {2-pack on sale for $29.99} and they look great! We hung a set next door and really liked the quality. They were 9.5” deep but the HH cut them down to 7” deep which suits the space better.
It was a busy week! And I suspect this week will be just as packed. And that’s a good thing if you ask me. Spring is right around the corner, and I want to be ready!
I hope you have a great Monday. Try and stay out of trouble. 😉

- The Van Gogh wall
- The gallery wall down stairs
