We’ve been very busy in the garden the past few days.
The HH has been busy edging the borders on the flower beds and I’ve been walking around the yard admiring the flowers at least 10 times a day. Who knew spring bulbs could bring this much joy?
I haven’t even been tempted to cut a single flower… Can you believe it? These pink amazing grace tulips are my favorite so far.
They’re just so pretty to look at and it’s been so much fun to hear people’s comments about them as they walk by. I think my husband loves all the spring bulbs we planted last fall as much as I do!
These charming beauty tulips are his favorites. He think we should plant another big border of the charming beauty tulips and the amazing grace tulips in front of the {buoy} fence next year.
Normally I’m not a fan of yellow flowers, but the charming beauty tulips from the Van Engelen Company were a really nice surprise. We ordered a TON of bulbs last year, and so far so good. They’re all doing really well.
If you love red tulips you may want to plant some of these Rocco parrot tulips in your garden. They are stunning!!!
And these Lieke daffodils are pretty too. The flowers are a little smaller than I expected, but overall I’m happy with them.
We are still waiting for the pheasant’s eye daffodils, blue parrot tulips, Globemaster allium to make their appearance but it’s actually kind of nice how the blooming of the flowers is a bit spread out.
Remember this birdhouse?
I bought it last fall thinking I would install a row of birdhouses in the back along the fence. And then we were outside yesterday and decided it needed to go smack dab in the flower bed.
The HH wasn’t so sure about it being up front but he got out his tools anyway.
It’s a good thing he did too because if it were left to me it would probably have gone in crooked. 😉
We also removed the tree the previous owners had planted {about 5 feet from the house}. We hated to remove the only tree on our teeny tiny lot but it just was not the right tree for that particular area.
All in all I think the area looks so much better now, don’t you?
It’s pretty wild to think that this entire area {and the fence, and the plantings we’ve done in the front} was only planted 8 months ago.
Next on the garden agenda…
- Transplant tomato and basil seedlings to larger pots.
- Start cucumber, zucchini and beans indoors under lights.
- Get the HH to dig up the side yard so I can plant the peony border.
- Secure the trellises in place so I can do some vertical gardening.
Yee-Haw! It finally feels like we’re making some progress in the garden.
And you know what? It feels SO GOOD!

P.S. What’s happening in YOUR garden? Are your tomato plants in the ground yet? I think I’ll wait until closer to the end of the month to put mine out.

I have 20 tomato plants in the garden beds. They are between 1 and 2.5 feet tall already! I started them indoors in March and planted them about 1.5-2 weeks ago. I planted about half of my peppers over the weekend and have more gardening off currently. I need to start more cucumbers because something ate the ones starts I had planted.

Your tulip beds are beautiful and I love the birdhouse in that bed.
I’m jealous, only about half the bulbs I planted last year came up. I found quite a few bulbs dug up so I guess some varmint got at them. I do think I’ll order some for this year from Van Engelen. After seeing your yard I want to load mine up too!

Those tulips are absolute perfection! Quick question for you. Would your husband be willing to travel to Wyoming to edge our lawn No? Then would you do a tutorial? My husband isn’t physically able, and being a full time caregiver keeps me busy.

I was gone all of April on vacation and planted seeds before I left. I have beets, peas, lettuce, spinach, a bit of kale and a cabbage or two coming up. Once I got home (PNW), I planted cucumbers, herbs, tomatoes and cauliflower in seed trays. The cucumbers have popped and are doing great. I have oregano and basil coming up (dill, parsley and chamomile aren’t coming up) and have 1 tomato that has sprouted. Once I get home from a quick visit to my parents, I’ll get zucchini planted and hopefully buy some tomato starts.
I have 1 bell pepper from last year that I never planted in the ground and kept in a pot inside over the winter. I now have the pot outside and it has a pepper growing on it 🙂

Curious minds want to know what plants are going in the flower beds after all the bulbs bloom? Also, how long do you let the daffodil, tulip and allium stalks stay up after the blooms? My allium are looking smaller and smaller every year so I will need to replant some this fall. Love their puff ball of color- so whimsical!
