Hello Monday! Did you have a good weekend?
We went on a nice walk yesterday {the HH is really picking up his pace lately!} and then went out for ice cream afterwards. As we drove through downtown it was PACKED with tourists.
On the sidewalks, waiting outside restaurants, taking pictures of everything… What a sight! I told the HH I should make a video for all of you who won’t make it to Southern Maine this summer.
July fourth lands on a friday this year so I suspect it’s only going to get crazier around here. Parking is near impossible, even at the post office.
Luckily I can ride my bike to the post office though to drop off packages.
I cannot ride it to Costco though to buy more salad mixes. 🙁 I’m crazy, but not that crazy.
Costco Shopping Trip $60.61
Note to self: Stop buying avocados from Costco. They aren’t as good as the ones from Trader Joe’s. My husband wanted to buy strawberries at Costco but I vetoed it. Store bought strawberries just don’t compare to the local ones.
Well pretty much any produce doesn’t but especially strawberries. I need to find a farmer’s market and see if we can get a few quarts.
I love salads!
I just can’t get enough of them.
Market Basket Shopping Trip $40.74
The HH was out and about and asked if I wanted anything from Market Basket and so I told him to pick up a rotisserie chicken and some yogurt.
He came home with FOUR different brands of yogurt. So I guess this means we’re researching yogurt now!? Husbands.
So far we’ve only opened Siggi’s yogurt. We both liked it.
It’s fat free but tastes 100% better than the Costco fat free yogurt. Kiln Guy are you reading this? Try Siggi’s!!
Maybe it tastes better because it’s not Greek yogurt? Who knows. All I know is we’ll be eating yogurt for breakfast for the foreseeable future. We bought FAGE yogurt the week before and really liked that one too {I’m guessing that’s why my husband bought that brand again?}.
A big thank you to the person who suggested adding jam to our yogurt. It really does add the perfect amount of sweetness.
Have you tried the new Costco honey dijon spinach salad mix from Costco? I added chicken to it and I still was not impressed. The HH said it was okay. I don’t think we’ll buy it again.
The Mediterranean Crunch salad is still #1 in my book. And you know what? For a pre packaged salad mix, I don’t think it can be beat.
But what do I know? I’m just a girl stuck in a salad, yogurt and chocolate chip cookie cycle right now. 🙂
Peace Out.

Totally was proven that despite the sale price of strawberries in stores, nothing will convince me not to spend the money on pick your own. The smell and taste was so superior. If I’m going to make jam, I want the best. Good tip for plain yogurt. We generally like the salad kits too, but the Asian Applec one was not it. The dressing was too sweet and the bits of apple tasted ( as they were)like chemicals.

Jump on those strawberries soon Mavis – the season is already half-passed.
If your game for a little trip to PYO, Gillespie Farms (Division of Pineland Farms) is lovely! Reasonable prices, easy parking, and they offer both a senior and volume discount (which a full flat will get you to).
They also have PYO Raspberries and Blueberries. Highly recommend checking out their website/FB.
Pineland Farms (a bit away from the PYO) has beautiful trails too for walking, and a lovely cafe with their own beef, cheese, produce, etc.

I canned a lot of jam last year and now I am trying to find ways to use it up. I made Jam Tarts and they were pretty good . . . but now I think I might need to buy some plain yogurt and use the jam in that. I usually buy Yoplait (mixed berry and blueberry) and since I have mixed berry and blueberry jam on the shelf, I may as well give it a go!

If you’re up for a ride, Ossipee Hill Farm and Observatory in Waterboro has strawberries, pre picks and pick your own. Gwendolyn has a IG page if you want to check it out before taking the ride. Super cool people bringing farming back.

Supermarket strawberries have been really good this year. Publix usually has Driscoll’s and they are the best. But, never as good as local.
We steer clear of our house on the lake for 4th of July week. We used to go this week every year but it has gotten so crowded in town that after last year we said no way to this year. Most of the out of town crowd comes in from Atlanta and they think they own the place where the rest of us spend a lot of time all year round. But we will miss being there. There has to be a solution for the crowds.
