Costco Shopping Trip $50.62
The HH went to Costco last week to load up on provisions and when he came back I was like, well, I guess we’re back on the wagon again. 😉
Back to the old grind. Back to salads and berries and yogurt. But you know what? I am happy about that. The novelty of eating out when you’re away from home gets old after about the third day in my opinion.
A routine. That’s what I crave.
A big salad with bacon, avocado and hard boiled eggs. Does it get any better than that?
Sometimes with chopped pecans.
Sometimes with peas. Just let me eat a big salad and I’ll be happy. 🙂
Market Basket Shopping Trip $15.67 {including milk}
He also loaded up on yogurt. I think I’ve settled on a favorite brand. Icelandic Provisions. The HH still can’t decide if he likes the Oikos or the FAGE brand the best.
We both agree that gurt with a wee bit of jam and fruit is a winning combination though. {Thanks for all your suggestions!!}
I had an appointment in Portland and Chick-fil-A was close by so we popped in for a treat. I can’t decide if Chick-fil-A or Five Guys has the best shakes but strawberry is my all time favorite.
Actually now that I think about it, I can’t even remember when the last time was that I ordered something other than a strawberry shake.
Hmmm. Maybe when I was a kid? Maybe it was a shamrock shake from Mc Donalds when I was 10? Do they even make those anymore?
Trader Joe’s Shopping Trip $77.32
I went in for smoked salmon and baby avocados and came out with a cart full. 🙂
Fact: Trader Joe’s sells the BEST avocados on the planet earth.
Pickety bits.
Ahh yes. It’s good to be back on the wagon again. Big salads and pickety bits. I love you.

I made yogurt for the 1st time this weekend. Way easier than I would have ever thought!
Who knew?!!
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ll have to give it a try.
Diane says
Did you use a yogurt maker or do you have a link to how you made it? I did it years ago with a yogurt maker, which has long since been given away. I might try it again if I don’t have to buy any new gadgets! Thanks!

An Instant Pot is great for making yogurt.

Why the “Betty” moniker on the milkshake!? 🙂
Mavis Butterfield says
Everyone knows how to pronounce and spell Betty. And of course because of Laverne and Shirley. Betty please…. Pick up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDpsM70eiag

Tea is something I could (and do) drink every day but can’t think of anything I wouldn’t get tired of eating after a while. What dressing do you eat on your salads?
Mavis Butterfield says
Whatever is in th ekit or this dressing if I’m cooking bacon: https://www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/bacon-dijon-salad-dressing/

Tomato/mayo sandwiches,

How do the two of you eat that many avacados without them going bad? Do you have a special way to store them?
Mavis Butterfield says
We eat them fresh and also freeze them for later. Here’s a great link–> https://www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/the-best-way-to-freeze-avocados/

Trader Joe’s avocadoes last longer than anyone else’s. I’m the only one in my house that eats them, and I still buy a whole bag when I can. I let them ripen partway, then put them in the frig. The nearest TJ is almost two hours away now, but we manage to get there now and then.

Salads, every day, all day, even for breakfast. My husband used to roll his eyes. It took a quite a few years, but he is now on the salad wagon with me. However, his default is always burritos.
Sometimes I make a salad and roll it up in a tortilla and tell him it’s a burrito. Win-win for both of us.
Mavis Butterfield says
Salad burritos!! That’s funny. I’ll have to try that. 🙂

I could eat salads every day! You can make them so many different ways it never gets boring. My HH and I tried the Mediterranean crunch salads you recommended and we like those now too! We also have beans and rice every week, because you can always change things up with those too. And every Friday is “pizza Friday”! My HH makes the dough using his sourdough starter, we use Tomato Magic as the sauce, and freshly shredded whole milk mozzarella. All pretty simple and all pretty delicious.

Some variation on overnight oats. I just tried the “Princess Diana” chef’s recipe and it was good. Basically overnight oats are some form of Bircher Muesli. I use whatever I have for fruit, plain yogurt, maybe a little honey, oats (can be soaked in OJ), chia seeds, shredded apple, berries

Mavis! As crazy as it sounds, I would LOVE to see you do a video on you making your salads. Really! You have so many different interesting little bits in them that I never know exactly what it all is. Would you ever consider this?
Ann says
I eat peanut butter on Pepperidge Farm Cinnamon Swirl Raisin bread for lunch every single day. And I have for at least 15 years – maybe longer. And I eat scrambled eggs for breakfast every day. If I could get away with it, I would eat Caprese Salad for dinner every day but my HH needs variety so I mix it up for dinner. 🙂
JamieH says
I could eat a Caesar salad every single day

Not sure if you’ve heard yet but Aldi is opening a location in Westbrook. I drove by there the other day & saw a sign for it, near the Lowe’s if I remember correctly. I’m rarely over that way, but I thought it was neat that Aldi’s branching out.
Mavis Butterfield says
Wow! That is exciting. Thanks for the heads up!
