The local farm stand recently opened for the season and it’s already packed with all sorts of amazing fruits and vegetables.
I LOVE this little stand. The ladies that work there are always so pleasant and it has just about everything you could need in the way of produce.
The place is always hopping too. Last Friday was the first day for corn so everyone was especially excited.
Fresh corn! You just can’t beat the taste.
This year corn is going for $0.85 an ear at the stand. How much is corn going for in your area?

It makes me think that next year, maybe I should start my seeds a little earlier and use row covers.
But if I did that, I wouldn’t be able to go to the farmstand, right? 😉
I think I’d miss it.
I snapped a photo of the price board so you could see how much fruits and veggies are going for here in Southern Maine this summer.

The thing I look forward to the most this time of year {other than fresh corn} are the wild Maine blueberries. Luckily I was early enough to snag a flat of these little beauties.
We gobbled down a pint and then I packed the rest away in the freezer for pies. I might have to go back for another flat. We’ll see. Summer! We’re finally in the thick of it and it tastes so good.

Corn at the local farmstand is 12/$12 right now. I’m the only one who eats it, so a dozen, and freezing most of the ears, lasts me a good while. Once the great terracing project is complete, I look forward to growing my own eating corn and popping corn again.

Yes, there are several varieties. We like the strawberry popcorn. The corn looks like a strawberry, but doesn’t taste like it.

Those prices are almost identical to my prices when I had a farmstand in Northern California last year.
Wondering what the price of the blueberries is though. In Oregon this summer we paid $2.50 a pound for Upick. Seemed like screaming good deal.

Blueberries were $8 a pint. Totally worth it to me for the best berries on the planet earth.

We have been getting delicious corn in our Walmart order for weeks for 25 cents and ear…the produce has been amazing…usually huge, cherries soooo good…biggest lettuce ever seen.

Last week at the little farmers market in our neighborhood corn was $1.50 a piece! I don’t think he even grows it himself I think it comes from the wholesalers market in Philadelphia. I said no thank you. We did get the best yellow tomatoes and red ones from a small gardener called Urban Gardens only 3 acres but oh mu their stuff is so good. Tomatoes (big ones) were $1.00 each.

It’s cool to see what local produce sells in different regions. Here in West Texas we often see people selling watermelons or cantaloupe out of their pick up beds. A Pecos County cantaloupe is top notch!

Yellow squash is 3/1 and they are nice small ones. Corn is .59 ear, tomatoes, Cherokee Purple, are 2.29lb. This is s. middle TN.

Our prices in So. Cal. are somewhat higher for everything. What struck me is you can buy pastured meat for less than we are currently paying , in most cases, in the grocery store. And of course , your blueberries are way better than what is available to us, but our strawberries were fantastic this year!

I was lucky enough to get some fresh veggies from a church lady. She has a big garden! She canned 94 quarts of green beans this summer. The Lord has blessed her. Anyway, she sold corn $5/dozen. They were smaller ears, but made the best cream corn. Our Walmart had corn for .25 an ear. She sold her yellow squash and zucchini for $2. The market you were at looks like a dream!

In general your prices seem slightly lower than here (Boston area).
Our corn is $1/ear this year. I don’t freeze it but we buy a bushel or two to can.
Blueberries are expensive at $4.50/half pint or $7/$8 a pint. If I can get to the pick-your-own that’s what we will do.

Prices are good for local grown, not grocery store trucked in produce. Beautifuly displayed and looks so good. How lucky are you!

I can’t remember but do you have a separate freezer? I thought you did.
We’ve been sourcing pasture raised meats and organic vegetables and have found the freezer above our fridge is getting smaller and smaller!

The produce looks so good. Our corn is 1$ each here, Southern B.C.
We make a lot of creamed corn in the oven. Then just freeze it flat in small freezer bags. So nice to have during the winter.
We’d like to grow our own raspberries and blackberries next year. My husband just planted plum, cherry, apple and peach trees this Spring. The apple supposedly has five different variations growing on it.
We love fruit.

Where I live corn is most often 59 cents an ear at the supermarket (its really good) but every few weeks they have it 10 for $2. I also live very close to where some very nice blueberries are grown. Its cool to see containers in grocery stores from a town that’s less than a 20 min drive away. This means they are fresher and cheaper then other times of year when they come from much father away.

I LOVE freezer corn! I usually do 4 dozen. Use my FOODSAVER. Great in soups, stews or just throw the frozen pack into boiling water and enjoy!!! With butter of course.
Bonus…….you don’t have to blanch first if you take off the cob!

.33 per ear at our local farm stand in NW Ohio. BLTs with fresh sweet corn will be on repeat here and I’m not complaining!

I used to send a week with my grandparents in upstate NY every summer. The farmers would drive their fresh picked produce to sell at 7 am, 12 pm, and 4pm. Corn was a bakers dozen 13….for $1.00!! Then fresh green beans, tomatoes, and on and on!!! Good memories!!

I’ve been spoiled. One of our favorite blueberry farms now sells their frozen berries year round. I’m enjoying eating all the fresh ones we picked knowing that I can enjoy the frozen ones all winter long with having to take up the freezer space to freeze my own.
