If you’ve been waiting for some deals on Costco flowers, shrubs and hanging baskets… Holy cow man! Now is the time to stop by and load up!!
I popped by Costco yesterday to pick up salad supplies and didn’t even make it to the produce section for a solid 15 minutes because there were so many beautiful plants to look at.
Everywhere I looked the deals on Costco flowers kept getting better and better. I couldn’t believe just how many outstanding plants the Maine Costco was offering. Does your Costco have all of these right now?
I even saw fig trees and topiaries for sale. The variety was simple nuts. And the prices? Awesome!! If only I had more room!!!
These were only $33.99! can you believe it!? I kept circling the plant area trying to figure out where I could put them. It was a little pathetic.
I came home and told the HH about them and how lovely they’d look in giant pots with a few trailing flowers. He asked me why I didn’t buy any.
I practically shouted WHERE WOULD I PUT THEM!?
The hibiscus trees were only $37.99. I don’t know why but these make me think of Florida and flamingos.
3 gallon perennials for $18.99. What a deal!
Giant hosta plants for $18.99. I didn’t need any of those either. In fact I have some I need to dig up to make room for growing pole beans on the side of the house.
I did go home with a beautiful rosemary plant. Rosie will go in a pot on the back steps.
They also had a 4-pack of herbs for sale. I have some under grow lights right now so I passed. Also it’s too cold for the basil and parsley to survive overnight still.
There oodles of bedding plants too. 20 plants for $14.99.
These white begonias were my favorite thing there.
Aren’t they beautiful? I didn’t go home with one though. 🙁 Maybe I need to get a job at a nursery this summer so I can get my plant fix?
I did come home with a flat of white petunias, a hanging strawberry basket and a beautiful rosemary plant. If only I had more room, I would have filled the entire car with plants. {The HH is probably happy about that!}
Oh well, I guess having a tiny yard with practically no weeds to pull will leave me with plenty of time for other things this summer.
Have you scored any great deals on plants lately? Have you grown begonias outdoors before? How late into the season do they last? Maybe I need to go back for one.
Have a great day everyone and stay out of trouble. 🙂

That is a great price for the topiaries. A few would have definitely come home with me. Recently the big box orange store nearby had them for sale for triple that price with only two spheres. I will have to check my Costco. Thanks, Mavis!

I predict you and HH are taking a trip back to Costco and you WILL find room for some more plants! What about some topiaries in front of the barn/garage doors in front? What about red geraniums to have a pop of red flowers with the lobsters? Or red, white, and (blue/purple) petunias to go along with the patriotic buoys? Just some ideas… can’t wait to see what you pick and where you will put them as I know it will look fabulous!

I’m not a fan of red flowers… But they would match the lobsters. Hmmm… Something to think about.

I vote for toparies on your newly stained barn deck.

In Piedmont NC begonias will do well until frost. You often see begonias with the jack ‘o lanterns.

I have planted begonias in big urns at the entrance to our apartment complex for the last few years (pink ones with burgandy color leaves) along with this year lavender calla lilies and lime green sweet potato vines. Oh my those begonias are such hard working little flowers planted ours just about a week ago and they are growing already and they will last here in the Mid Atlantic area till the end of Oct. I am so excited this year about how it turned out and the urns look great already. I think you “need” them, you can always find a place for them!

I know your HH will not like this idea… but what if he was able to make some square planter boxes with some recycled pallets (paint them white or stain natural) to put the topiary plants inside to hide the plastic pots they are in? Or planter boxes on the fence row along with the buoys? I am vicariously plant shopping along with you and wishing I could buy all those beautiful plants! This I post made me so happy seeing all those lovely plants! Have fun!

I love that you call the rosemary plant “rosie”. Did you know that sniffing rosemary can increase your memory? I have already told my friends – “don’t even try it”. Ha ha ha
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ll have to remember that!

I went to Costco here in Washington yesterday to pick up my hanging baskets for 22.99 each and walked away with two giant resin pots I needed to transplant a couple of shrubs for 12.99 apiece. It felt practically free! I have been so excited about my purchase!! Love Costco!

Not related but thought you might enjoy this. The garden is beautiful and they have several hooked wall rugs and pillows. I really liked the lobster one around the oval table.

I love the rug on the wall!
Pat says
Mavis, is that one of your hooked whale pillows on the bed?
Mavis Butterfield says
No, those are made with wool yarn, sold by LL Bean and made in India.

I have bought those boxwood topiaries several times in the Spring and never been able to pull them through the winter. My Master gardener sister has tried to help me by making some good suggestions but they always die or all the green parts die out and they come back from the stem which is ugly and scrawny. I have picked them up in the clearance section of Walmart for $5 a couple of times and if I can do that I will buy them again because they are just so wonderful and striking.

Our Costco gets a lot of plants but they don’t take care of them. If I don’t happen to be there when they are just putting them out, I don’t buy any at our Costco.

I was just at Costco in Southern CA-no plants like those…I would have been in big trouble had there been. There were some plants but no hanging flowers, or anything like you had…Maine is just so cool..

Wow, I can’t believe how good those plants look and what a variety! I was at my local Costco yesterday and saw nothing close to what you found at your store. No wonder you got distracted from your food mission!
