Yesterday I took some {more} time to go through my upstairs craft space and to ask myself some serious questions.
Questions like… When was the last time I picked this up? When did I buy this with the intention of reading/hooking/making it? And realistically, when do I see myself carving out the time to actually complete this project?
This month? Next month? This winter? A year, two years, FIVE years from now?
In some {most} ways I’d like to think I live a pretty slimmed down existence when it comes to excess stuff.
But it’s even harder to do that when you live in a teeny tiny house. Like CRAZY hard.
Yes, there is room in the barn. But because our house is so small {and my indoor work space is less than 150 square feet!} I need that space to store most of my {what I’m working on now} crafting endeavors.
It’s kind of a weird set up. We knew it would be when we moved here. But knowing how something is going to be and the reality of having to LIVE somewhere and function within those spaces are two totally different things.
Bottom line, I don’t want to live in the land of unfinished projects. And I have a lot of unfinished projects. A LOT. Well, at least I think I do.
I keep telling myself that if I can just get XYZ done I’ll feel less stressed.
Things like…
- Painting the ENTIRE inside of the house.
- Re-doing bathroom #2.
- Getting all the backyard projects done.
- Getting the front porch sanded and stained.
- Getting the next round of buoys and decorations up.
There really are some projects that if I can just get them done and off my list… I’ll never have to think about it again.
What I really need is to be able to clone myself x5 for 2 weeks. Me x5 x2 weeks. I really think that’s all it would take. So where do I order that? Has anyone invented that service yet? Step inside my mind, do all the things the way I want them done and do them well… and then go away.
If only I was a one project at a time kind of person. I think my life would be so much easier. Too much clutter and unfinished projects makes me crabby. Like REALLY REALLY crabby.
I am determined to finish the decluttering today!

The annual to-do list has items on it carried over from previous years. In the words of a SIL, there’s always a list of things left undone. I remind myself to check that list if I ever think I have nothing to do!

I’d be more than happy to take those gorgeous threads off your hands!
Mavis Butterfield says
Hi Ann,
Sorry, I put them on Etsy last night and they just sold a few minutes ago.

Mavis, how do you decide whether to sell or donate something you no longer need? That’s always such a quandary for me, donate or sell.

I am the same way with quilting projects. My mind always rushes to the next project/gift. One day I will get them all done, but that day is not today! I am making progress on finishing them though!

My thoughts too!!

You could help out your local economy and hire a painter to do the painting. You would be doing someone a favor.

Not speaking for Mavis here, but for myself… any contractor we’ve used for anything has not been as good as we could/would have done for ourselves. It is frustrating to shell out hard-earned money for a job that’s not well done.
So, as much as I’d LOVE to have someone else paint for us, we always end up doing it ourselves.

“Any contractor we’ve used for anything has not been as good as we could/would have done for ourselves.” With exception of the roofing company… You are spot on.
