On the fourth day of our hiking adventure we again explored Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. This time with an Escalante River walk.
We saw some pretty amazing petroglyphs, discovered some edible plants and really just had a blast hiking.
I think the thing I liked most about our trip was that every day was different. The scenery kept on changing and it seemed like we learned something new every day.
Our guides told us that a few years ago someone hiked into the area at night with a saw and tried to CUT OUT a few of the petroglyphs. Can you believe that? Who would do such a thing?
Luckily they didn’t succeed!!
Snacking by the river. It doesn’t get any better than that!
About 2 hours into our hike there was a footwear change.
Our guides had told us that unless we were used to hiking in our water shoes, it was probably best to wear socks with them so we didn’t end up with a bunch of blisters.
One of the younger hikers was having a hard time walking in her sandals and long story short, she was the same size shoe as me so we swapped.
The open toed shoes weren’t as grippy as the ones I had brought along but they held up just fine.
The water was a wee bit deep in some parts.
Who needs Tupperware to keep your food fresh when you can have a hole in the ground?
I took some video of the hike if you want to take a closer look. This was such an amazing trip! I’m so glad I went. I have one more post to share about the trip {tomorrow?} and then it will be back to the usual stuff around here.
Have a great weekend everyone!! I hope it’s a good one.
