Have you stepped outside lately? The fall colors!! They’re so beautiful. I couldn’t help but snap a few photos while I was out on a walk the other day.
It seems like there are a lot more front porches decorated this year than in years past and it makes my heart happy. I love how a pumpkin or a twiggy wreath on someone’s door can bring a smile to my face.
I honestly think fall is my favorite season. What about YOU? Is fall your favorite too?
I love the shorter days {working outside} and the slower pace of everything. We really just have one more major thing left to do before the ground freezes and that’s to plant the 500 {what was I thinking!?} tulip bulbs when they arrive.
Note to self: Buy a packet of birdhouse gourd seeds for next year.
Of all the pumpkins I’ve spotted on my walks this past week, this one is my favorite. I hope the squirrel or chippy that found that pumpkin got their fill.
And that they don’t come for mine next. Yikes!
Fall. It really is the best time of the year in my opinion. Now, if we could just get the weather to cool down a bit more so I can break out the puffy coat. 😉
Have a great weekend everyone, I hope it’s a good one.

Buy a bulb drill attachment for tulip planting. My husband loves the one that he bought from Home Depot.

Fall is my absolute favorite season! I love the leaves, the crisp air, the earlier sunset, comfort food, cozy seaters and hot coffee!
You may already have one but if not, I highly recommend getting a bulb auger bit for your drill. It made my bulb planting so much easier last year. My son helped me and between the two of us I think we planted 100 bulbs in about 20 minutes. I have a lot of fine tree and oblique roots in my yard so using a spade for digging is often frustrating and I can’t get deep enough. The auger makes short work of digging the holes.

Fall is the best season and there is no room for negotiation! The crisp air and smell of leaves underfoot and honey/gold/orange colors … what’s not to love!?

i planted the birdhouse gourds one year got a ton of them and they came out great. they last forever, easy to decorate and the birds love them too. plus you have seeds to save for many years to come. i know you are a fan of butternut squash and i make an easy squash soup, with roasted butternut, grated apple and onion sauteed in a little butter, add heavy cream and chicken stock to get the consistency you like and some salt and pepper, easy, peasy. enjoy the beautiful fall day here in maine.

My goal is to plant birdhouse gourds too. Hopefully from seeds I’ve saved. Any hints?

Fall is my favorite too! The changing leaves (colors), the cooler weather (cozy clothes), warm drinks and most importantly, my mid-Oct birthday!!!

Do tulips come back every year in your zone? I am in Georgia and sadly we have to treat them as annuals. So I plant more daffodils in the ground and just a few containers with tulips.
Bonnie in GA says
Hi Diane, I am wondering if you are trimming back the foliage too early on your tulips, bc if you don’t let the foliage die back, it won’t go through photosynthesis (if I am saying that right). The bulb needs the energy given back to the bulb for next year’s flower. I have tulips that come back and I live in Georgia.

I’ve had good luck with botanical tulips. I’m in zone 8b Georgia. Just be sure to plant some daffodils close to them so that the squirrels and chipmunks don’t dine on the bulbs.

I love autumn, the horrendous 40+ degree summer heat is a bad memory, the beautiful autumnal colours arrive, the cooler weather is a joy
