I went out to our little kitchen garden this morning to have a look around and you know what? Things are looking really healthy!
The HH was a little worried that the spot alongside the house would get too much shade, but I think it’s getting plenty of sunshine.
The mini pumpkins I planted along the fence are coming along nicely.
In a few more weeks they’ll be vining out and when they do, I plan on training them to grow along the fence. It’s going to look SO CUTE!!
I picked 4 French breakfast radishes this morning! I love this variety. Not too spicy and I love the shape of them and the colors too.
The butternut squash plants are right on schedule. Pretty soon they’ll be climbing up the trellis.
The pole beans are already working their way up!
I think I might move the potted zucchini to the back deck.
I have an extra pot and I think it might like that area a bit more as the zucchini will be able to dangle off the side of the pot.
The French beans are looking good. Probably about two more weeks to go until we have some to pick.
I think the HH is doing a GREAT job on the edging this summer. Everything in the garden looks so nice and tidy. Especially the flower borders out front.
It’s been fun picking the sugar snap peas, but I think it’s just been too hot lately. I don’t think they’re happy.
If the heat keeps up, I may have to pull them and plant another vining vegetable. Maybe more beans? I don’t know, we’ll see.
Is it just me, or does it always seem like the first tomato of the summer takes forever to ripen? At least it’s getting bigger. 😉
Rosie is looking good too.
But my favorite thing in the garden right now… Are the hydrangeas!!! Just a few more days and they’ll be in full bloom.
I love this time of year in the garden, don’t you?
What’s in bloom at your place? Curious minds want to know. 🙂

oh my goodness everything looks amazing but the hydrangeas are just beautiful, my all time favorite. What would you think of maybe a few pink Knock Out Roses mixed in the boarders also. I love them so much and they just bloom their little hearts out all summer long.

Your gardens always look wonderful! Do you do anything in particular to amend the soil?
We have alot of clay in our soil here in Ohio and wondered if you could share some of your ideas to improve soil. Love your hydrangeas!

This past week we finally got several good downpours in my area and everything is green and flush. I throw down zinnia seeds in a few places last month and they are coming up. No flowers for a while, but you have to start to get them!! I’ll be happy when they come up =)

Good morning Mavis,
Your small garden is lovely. Your husband did a beautiful job with the edging. Now I want to plant French radishes. I have four tomato plants and the one with yellow cherry tomatoes is already producing tomatoes we can eat. The rest are still green. I can see yellow squash coming along and the zucchini is about to happen. We installed a trellis in the shape of an arc over our raised garden last year and wove solar lights through it. We planted grape vines at the base. Now the vines are in full bloom with big leafs all across the sides and top and clusters of grapes are hanging from it. I love looking at that. Also love the flowers in my garden. My hydrangeas are blooming and my roses are in bud again. I live in Grand Junction Colorado. It’s very dry and hot here and my strawberry plant didn’t make it.

I was looking at your first picture in this post. I remember you had commented you wanted to hide the propane/gas tank. It would look so cute if you could somehow make the tank look like a light house. With all the lobsters on the house, it would be perfect!

I have zinnias zinning, cosmos in bloom, calendulas, snapdragons, marigolds and morning glories climbing my fence and blooming. Also have a few roses and hollyhocks so there is lots of color in my yard. Lots of happy bees buzzing around.

I was away for a few weeks so got a late start with window boxes and pots. All done at the moment, but a criminal rabbit has systematically mowed down my blooming daisies a little each day! I bought some lavender plants to fill in.

My garden is flourishing; zucchini, beans, tomatoes galore, artichokes, peppers blackberries, grapes. The peas are done but they were great while they lasted. Wish it would rain though so I didn’t have to water
