Another one of the places Jen and I went to during our trip to England last fall was Liberty London.
If you are into fancy quilting fabric then Liberty London will probably mean something to you {the brand of fabric is really a big deal according to my friend Zoë who makes quilts}.
But Jen and I simply popped into the store because we were in the area {after enjoying afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason}.
Neither Jen nor I are into sewing or fancy clothes but holy cannolis people, this store was something to behold!
Can someone please tell me why we don’t have stores like this here in the US? Talk about dreamy!! Just look at all that woodwork. Imagine this space as a library. Wouldn’t that be lovely?
Who needs to buy anything? I’m pretty sure they could just get away with charging admission and people would still flock to the place!
Hand carved newel posts? Are you serious!?
They were everywhere!
Tana Lawn cotton fabric. This fabric goes for about $40 a yard. I know nothing about quilting fabric but apparently this fabric is a dream to work with.
And there were rooms and rooms of it. {A whole floor of sewing supplies actually.}
This store had everything you could think of and more. Fabrics, clothing, BATHTUBS. Everywhere we looked there was something more over the top than the last.
I loved this couch.
Only $7,700 USD. That would buy a LOT of tea and cookies. Or a used car.
Jen liked this mirror.
The store had an eclectic mix of home goods. Everything from new pieces to items I swear one of their buyers picked up at a thrift store and stuck an exorbitant price tag on.
The owl was my favorite.
Sometimes just walking through a place is enough.
Liberty London, what a treat!

Liberty is my happy place, usually stop in at least twice every time I visit London for fabric and other crafty things. On one of the upper floors there’s an enormous and fabulously detailed 6’ long Lego model of the store…over 105,000 pieces!

It reminds me of Joann Fabrics, which is now folding. 🙁 I’ll miss the store layout, where it felt okay to take your time to think about things and not follow a cognitive script that pushes you to do more, not better.

Surely it was a library in its past life!
