Earlier this summer, the HH and I were at the grocery store when I noticed packages of Wasa Crisp Bread on the shelf.
It’s not a new product, it’s actually been around since 1919 {and started selling in the US in 2007} but it was new to us.
I decided to give it a chance and well, before you know it, I was obsessed and had to try each variety sold at our store.
Don’t you love it when you take a chance on a new {to you} food product and it ends up being your new favorite thing? It’s such a good feeling. Like hey, that wasn’t a waste of money!!
The whole grain variety turned out to be our favorite one.
Wasa Crisp Bread, to me, it’s really just a cross between a hearty piece of toast and a cracker. It’s the perfect vehicle for your favorite toppings.
One of my favorites is cream cheese, ham and a slice of tomato.
Tuna and pickled onions is another winner.
But I think my favorite combination so far is a soft cheese and salami or smashed avocado. Have you tried Crisp Bread? Do you have a favorite topping? Curious minds want to know.
Hey! It’s the weekend already, can you believe it? I hope you have a good one.

I started eating it growing up in the early 80’s. So yummy!

I haven’t had them in a while but used to love them with a wedge of laughing cow cheese as an afternoon snack.
Mavis Butterfield says
We buy a wheel of laughing cow about once a year. It’s a great spreadable cheese!! I love it.
Joely says
Me too!

Our family loves them. I like to put hummus and feta on a light rye wasa.
Cathy Strasser says
Love WASA! I had forgotten about it too, thanks for the reminder, I’ll be picking some up today for my favorite – tuna salad with sweet relish and a tough of Dijon mustard. Yum!
Lynn says
Love them. We mostly top them with peanut butter, sliced bananas and a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips
Martha says
I love Wasa with Ajvar, especially a spicy one. If you’ve never tried Ajvar, there are a million varieties. Basically, it’s roasted red pepper, sometimes roasted eggplant, and various other vegetables in a spread. A lovely Balkan treat.
Mavis Butterfield says
That sounds really good!!

Oh Mavis I have been using Wasa Crisp since forever (Ikea is or was always a good place to get them). We love them and quiet honestly we haven’t had them for sometime now as I had forgotten about them. Never knew they came in different flavors either. Now I must be on the hunt this weekend to find some. My husband and I do love egg salad on them but the cream cheese and salami looks really good along with the avacado. Darn now I must go look for some. Also for a great cracker to get at Ikea not sure of the name but they are HUGE round ones with a hole in the middle (they were made that way back in the day to be put on a pole to have over the fireplace). They are great. Have a great weekend. I really miss when you don’t post on the weekends.
Kristina says
The Swedish word is knäckebröd, those huge stacks of round ones with the hole in the middle. I grew up eating it with pickled fish at Christmas, but I rarely see the old fashioned round ones anymore here in California. Tinned fish is also a classic way to eat Wasa, and my favorite.
Nancy Settel says
Oh Kristina thank you so much. We just love those Knackebrod and haven’t had them for a long time now either. We always got the round ones at Ikea if you have one in your area. I love them also with just butter spread on them. My husband would love the pickled fish for sure.
Karen says
Been eating wasa crackers for ever and it doesn’t bloat me like most bread.
Love the crispiness of them and it travels well .
I keep the package in a zip lock bag for freshness
Denise B. says
For a riff on Dubai chocolate strawberries, spread a layer of pistachio butter and add strawberries on top. You can also add some type of chocolate.
Jennifer says
They make a gluten free version that’s a decent substitute for those that need gluten free crackers also.
Tracey says
I grew up eating strawberry cream cheese on mine, love it!
Judy from Canada says
I’ve been eating them for years, so good.
I like them with salmon cream cheese, cheese and salami. If I have a lot of eggplants I make baba ganoush.
I love to try different foods.
Have a lovely weekend.
Cindy Brick says
It lasts a lot longer than you think it would — I bought a case once through Amazon’s Warehouse Deals. I like the crunch — just wish the everyday version would have more spices and seasonings.
It’s good with ham and cheese, though.
Karen says
I like the sourdough….less calories ! Swiss cheese or peanut butter….like the idea of avocado.
Archie says
Any variety with tinned sardines.
I’m also thinking that wonderful mixed nut butter from Costco might be yummy (not with sardines of course) on Wasa Crispbread.
Mary says
Almost every day for breakfast: whole grain wasa crisp with manchego cheese and a slice of tomato..
Wendy Steele says
I’ve been eating Wasa Crisps for over 40 years. Whipped Cottage cheese on top is great–tuna fish salad, or chicken salad too. Almost anything!!
