Get Back To The Basics + Learning to Unplug
Last week was FANTASTIC!
I took an entire day off from everything, stayed in bed, ordered room service {thank you HH} and listened to an audiobook while working on a new hooked rug.
I also took a nap and went to bed early. It was lovely. We all need a personal day every once in a while, don’t you think?
In The Kitchen
Last week we checked out ALDI, ate pickety bits, stuffed shells, tuna bowls, pizza and a bunch of other random things.
Nothing new, nothing out of the ordinary. I have yet to eat a big salad this year! I can’t believe that. Each time I go to the store the salad mix doesn’t look that great.
And who knows how long the lettuce has been sitting there. Weird, I know. Especially since last year pretty much 5 out of 7 meals were big salads.
I miss them. But for now, I’m just happy eating all the ingredients without the lettuce.
Kitchen Goals For This Year
- Master the pear frangipane tart from Standard Baking Company.
- Put my Weck jars to use.
- Use two bins of beans.
Rug Hooking
I finally finished all my rug hooking duties… FOR THE YEAR! All the wool has been dyed and bundled. All the patterns drawn. All the kits are ready to go.
Holy cow man. I did it! Now I can concentrate on gardening and working on new rugs and designs at my leisure.
I know cramming 12 months of work into 3 months sounds kind of crazy for most people, but I’d rather work like a machine for 3 months {in the middle of a Maine winter} and get to enjoy the other 9 months doing other things.
Rug Hooking Goals For This Year
Finish drawing out all my patterns, making kits, dyeing wool by March 31st.- Release 10 new rug hooking patterns/kits. {3 down 7 to go}
- Hook 27 of the patterns from the “someday I’ll hook these” bin. {4 down 23 to go}
Go New Places – See New Things
Hey! Guess what? I’m in NYC with Jen! We arrived late yesterday afternoon, and today we are going on a 6 hour tour of the city with a guide.
I have a long list of things I want to do {okay, so most of it involves food} but I am super excited to be able to get out and WALK everywhere!!
I’m kind of scared to ride the subway, but we’ll figure it out I’m sure. I’m hoping to report back tomorrow on our trip.
Travel Goals For This Year
- Travel someplace {internationally} that I’ve never been before.
- Travel somewhere in Maine {overnight} that I haven’t been before.
Places I’ve Been So Far This Year
- Boston {Birthday getaway}
Walk And Stretch More
I plan on getting a LOT of walking in this week!
Walking/Stretching Goals For This Year
- Get into some sort of stretching routine
- Fast walk a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon {signed up for a half marathon}
Garden
All I can say is that my fingers are crossed that my seedlings survive. I watered them really well before I left {hopefully I didn’t overwater them} and am hoping they are still standing when I get back.
I’ve gone on vacation before and left the HH in charge of watering my seedlings and it didn’t go so well.
Luckily I won’t be gone too long this time so unless there’s a crazy amount of sunshine beaming in through the windows, the plants should be okay. We’ll see.
Garden Goals For This Year
- Rework the driveway and garden areas
- Go crazy and plant a ridiculous amount of flowers
- Step out of my comfort zone and plant some flowers I’ve never planted before
Paint
I didn’t get any painting done last week but the first thing I’m going to paint when I get back is the entry way next door.
I know I should probably paint the bead board white, but my heart really wants to paint it a funky color and throw up some wild wallpaper above it.
The hand painted hummingbird garden by Happy Wall. I LOVE this design.
The HH thinks I am absolutely nuts. Says hanging {peel and stick} wallpaper would be too hard {who does he think he’s talking too?}.
Girls. They wanna have fun. Why can’t I have a crazy entry way? What’s the big deal?
Hey! It’s Monday. I’m in NYC. How cool is that!?
I hope you have a great day.
