Get Back To The Basics + Learning to Unplug
The hollyhocks are finally in bloom!!
I spent a lot of time in the garden this past week. Watering, planting, weeding, talking to Harry and Harriet {or resident birds living above the door – they had 3 girls!}.
Being outside and warm is so COOL. Normally around this time of year I have mixed feelings about the weather.
But not this summer. The really hot days don’t even bother me. Probably because I have so many outdoor projects in the works. 🙂
In The Kitchen
Breakfast of champions. Seriously, who needs to hang out in the kitchen when you can just eat fruit and cookies all day every day? Not me.
Kitchen Goals For This Year
- Master the pear frangipane tart from Standard Baking Company.
- Put my Weck jars to use.
- Use two bins of beans {working on it}
Rug Hooking
This past week I worked on sunflowers while waiting for the HH to get zapped. I always make sure to pack something to work on while I wait.
The magazines/pamphlets at the radiation center are just too depressing to look at.
So I either make small talk with people {who want to talk} or keep my head down and work on a small hooking project.
Rug Hooking Goals For This Year
Finish drawing out all my patterns, making kits, dyeing wool by March 31st.- Release 10 new rug hooking patterns/kits. {4 down 6 to go}
- Hook 27 of the patterns from the “someday I’ll hook these” bin. {6 down 21 to go}
Go New Places – See New Things
We went to Home Depot. For the millionth time this summer. And bought a sack of pea gravel. That was the furthest from home we ventured.
I still have no idea where we’re going to go for a mini holiday.
I keep checking for last minute airline deals but no luck so far. Nova Scotia is looking like a solid possibility. Only time will tell.
Travel Goals For This Year
- Travel someplace {internationally} that I’ve never been before.
- Travel somewhere in Maine {overnight} that I haven’t been before.
Places I’ve Been So Far This Year
- Boston {Birthday getaway}
- NYC {Girls getaway}
Walk And Stretch More
Did a little dumpster diving {okay, not dumpster diving, more like lifting the lid on a dumpster filled with super gross smelly bait at the bottom} and scored some discarded lobster rope.
I do love freebies. Even when I can’t get the stink off me for 2 days.
Walking/Stretching Goals For This Year
- Get into some sort of stretching routine
- Fast walk a 5K, 10K, and
Half Marathon
Garden
We went on a garden tour this past weekend {I’ll share the photos soon} and had a great time looking at other people’s gardens, potting sheds and properties.
I even discovered a new nursery!! And it is spectacular. I can’t wait to show you.
Garden Goals For This Year
Rework the driveway and garden areas{DONE!}- Go crazy and plant a ridiculous amount of flowers {working on it}
Step out of my comfort zone and plant some flowers I’ve never planted before{DONE!}
Paint
And last but not least… I scored some cool old chairs. All they need is a few dabs of wood glue and maybe a little paint?
I am currently on the hunt for 6-8 old wooden chairs and a farm table. Nothing fancy. Just comfortable.
Who knows what I’ll find. Sometimes you just have to wait and see how things pan out.
Hey! It’s Monday. I hope you have a great week.

Painting Goals For This Year
- The Van Gogh wall
- The gallery wall down stairs
- The captains wall in the hall

Hi, Mavis, I don’t know how your stretching routine is going but I thought I would share mine. I recently began using an app called Bend. I am only using the free version for now. 24 days ago (according to my stretching streak that the app tracks for me) I began a 5 min wake-up stretch routine. I do it before I do anything else in the morning and I am surprised (in a good way) to report that I am definitely making real progress with regards to my overall flexibility. It’s only 5 minutes long so very hard for me to tell myself I don’t have time. lol Sometimes I feel stupid for “needing” an app to guide me through the routine because the routine is so simple, but the structure helps me a) get it done and done correctly and b) motivates me to keep with it. Just thought I’d share!
