Get Back To The Basics + Learning to Unplug
I’m finding it easier and easier to unplug these days. Putting my phone on silent and shoving it in a drawer has really helped keep me from constantly checking it all the time.
I am slowly reprogramming myself to not go online {laptop} as much too. And it’s working. I suspect that once spring rolls around and there are garden projects galore, it will be even easier.
I recently listened to about 60% of the audiobook How To Break Up With Your Phone and there were a ton of crazy facts in there.
For instance: Did you know that he average person spends 4.5 hours a day on their phone? And that the average person spends 7.5 hours a day staring at a screen?
WOW. Just WOW.
In The Kitchen
Things are going well in the meals department this month thanks to the one hundred dollars a month pantry challenge.
We still have about a million pounds of beans and rice and the sack of beets I bought last fall is sitting in my fridge but we’re slowly consuming what’s in the cupboards and pantry.
I think I’m going to make a batch of granola this week and maybe some blueberry muffins too.
I thought about making a blueberry pie so I could use up that giant bag of blueberries in the freezer but then I’d just eat the whole pie and well… I’m not getting as much exercise as I normally do lately so that’s probably not a good idea. 🙂
Kitchen Goals For This Year
- Master the pear frangipane tart from Standard Baking Company.
- Put my Weck jars to use.
- Use two bins of beans.
Rug Hooking
So far this year I’ve added three new patterns/kits to my Etsy shop and added 20 new finished pieces. I’m currently working on a new batch of pillows {and maybe a small rug} for my next update which will either be this friday or next.
All in all it was an excellent week in the rug hooking department! I sold some pillows, dyed a bunch of wool and pretty much stayed on schedule.
The guy that cuts my wool for me was busy with another project though so now there is a mountain of wool that needs to be cut and I am behind on bundling wool.
Oh well. I’m sure I’ll get caught up. The goal is to have everything done by March 31st. I think I’m going to make it!!
And then I’m going to party like it’s 1999.
Rug Hooking Goals For This Year
- Finish drawing out all my patterns, making kits, dyeing wool by March 31st.
- Release 10 new rug hooking patterns/kits. {3 down 7 to go}
- Hook 27 of the patterns from the “someday I’ll hook these” bin. {2 down 25 to go}
Go New Places – See New Things
It’s looking like Jen and I are headed to NYC. I’ll know for sure in a few days.
I told her if we go we should totally go on a tour of some kind and scope out all the places we want to eat BEFORE we leave.
Jen and I travel really well together. Mostly because we both can walk all day, don’t dilly dally, are crazy organized and love to have a written plan of all the things we are going to do as soon as we wake up.
And then we do them all. Plus more.
Afternoon tea at The Plaza is on my list. So is getting a really good slice of pizza. Maybe even a weenie off a hot dog cart.
Note to self: I need to research bakeries in NYC.
Travel Goals For This Year
- Travel someplace {internationally} that I’ve never been before.
- Travel somewhere in Maine {overnight} that I haven’t been before.
Walk And Stretch More
We got a few walks in last week. The snow was melting, things were looking good and then it snowed again.
And it’s supposed to snow again today. 7-9 inches. Which honestly is not even that big of a deal around here.
We’ll see what happens.
Walking/Stretching Goals For This Year
- Get into some sort of stretching routine
- Fast walk a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon {signed up for a half marathon}
Garden
Yesterday I transplanted my lavender seedlings. The good ones anyway. I ended up with 40 nice looking starts in Solo cups.
I think today I’ll transplant the chives.
Then I need to look at the back of my seed packets, reorganize them and figure out what to plant next.
Garden Goals For This Year
- Rework the driveway and garden areas
- Go crazy and plant a ridiculous amount of flowers
- Step out of my comfort zone and plant some flowers I’ve never planted before.
Paint
The beadboard is up! The caulking and wiping and sanding is all done so it’s my turn to paint now.
The plan is to paint the beadboard white. And maybe the walls too. I haven’t decided if I am going to do a peel and stick wallpaper above the beadboard or leave the walls white.
But hey! The space looks so much better already! I’ll have to try and snap a better photo so you can see the whole space.
Can you believe it’s Monday already? What are YOUR plans for today? Anything exciting? Are you expecting snow at your place?
Have a great day everyone, I hope it’s a good one.
