Market Basket $45.24 {includes the yogurt and milk pictured below}
Although last week was an expensive one in the grocery department, I got a lot of canning done, ate pretty well and stayed out of trouble while the HH was away.
It still surprises me that rotisserie chickens from Market Basket are hands down 10,000 times better tasting than the ones Costco sells.
They’re smaller, taste like real chicken and are juicier. I won’t be buying another rotisserie chicken from Costco again, that’s for sure.
Hannaford $12.76
Carrots and pears for the carrot cake jam.
Costco $86.60
The HH likes crunchy, I like smooth… Guess who did the shopping? 😉
It’s been about a year since we started buying those salad kits from Costco and I’m still not tired of them. It’s weird how you can pretty much eat the same thing every day and not be bothered by it.
It makes me wonder if it’s our taste buds that change as we get older or if we just prioritize our time differently.
It’s so easy to chop and toss and have a big salad ready for the table in 5 minutes flat rather than pull out the recipe books and start from scratch on something more elaborate.
Maybe this winter, or late fall I’ll spend more time in the kitchen. Soup season is almost here after all and I do love a big pot of soup that will last for days.
The vanilla was only $9.99. Wasn’t it selling for nearly $30 a few years ago?
I love big salads!
Eating an entire apple, a pepper, cucumber, a hard boiled egg, a handful of tomatoes, a cup of chopped chicken, cheese, croutons and a bunch of lettuce all on one sitting seems like a lot for one person.
But for some reason. when you mix it all together in a salad, it doesn’t seem like all that much.
Avocado toast. Trader Joe’s makes THE BEST sourdough bread. Plus it freezes well so I can take out a slice or two at a time. I love that. Has anyone tried their apple cinnamon sourdough bread? What did you think?
What more do you need?
English Muffins $5.50.
Unless of course you are doing a power walk around town and spot the best English muffins on the planet earth for sale at the local coffee {tea} shop.
After walking around for 2 hours like a nutter I needed a sugar boost. 🙂 Fact: Maple donuts are delicious.
A fried egg with cheese on a toasted English muffin. Perfection.
It was a good week with lots of the same things I usually eat. I was able to get a lot of canning done and I think as a little reward I’ll make an apple galette with the extra pie filling I’ve got sitting in the fridge.
How was YOUR food week? Same old same old or did you make something new?
