Yesterday we went shopping for hanging baskets and for the first time {in probably forever} I couldn’t load up my cart with plants because I don’t have ANY more room!
Okay, so maybe I still have a few more teeny tiny spaces in the back to fill in with plants, but still, it was such a weird feeling. Knowing you can’t pick something on a whim and telling yourself you’ll figure out when you get home is just not a possibility anymore.
What do gardeners do when they run out of room to plant things?
It’s only the middle of May and I’m already starting to worry about what I’ll do outside all summer. Gaaa. I hope I don’t go crazy.
Dear Little Miss Lilac… I would have brought you home BUT THERE IS NO PLACE TO PUT YOU. 🙁
I went for a red, white and blue {purple} theme this year. I’ve never done that before. But I figured the color combo would go better with the lobsters than pale pinks and lavender petunias.
What do you think? Also, what are those trailing flowers called? Anyone know?
The barn door area keeps getting better and better.
I still need to find something to grow up the trellis to the right of the door. I saw some David Austin climbing roses at the nursery and remembered someone suggesting those last year.
I think they said they were hearty and good climbers and grew pretty fast. I’m not a big fan of roses, but maybe a soft yellow or pink one might be nice.
Maybe I could train it up the side of the barn and over the door? Anyone know how long that would take? Or even if it would look good?
The pole beans have been planted. The birds always seem to pull the seedlings up when I direct sow them outside so I’m starting them inside this year.
I also transplanted some basil and tomato seedlings to larger pots.
But the most exciting thing happening in the garden lately, are the Amazing Grace peony flowering tulips. I am SO in love with these flowers I can hardly stand it.
They’re so dreamy. I told myself I wasn’t going to pick any, but I couldn’t resist. I added a frog to the bottom of a small salad bowl and I just love how my little bouquet turned out.
Are you picking flowers to bring in the house this spring? If so, what’s on YOUR table these days? Curious minds want to know.
Have a wonderful tuesday everyone,
~Mavis

Those tulips are gorgeous. I don’t know what the trailing white flowers in the baskets are but they sure do make a nice addition.

The white flower looks like bacopa.

My dahlia obsession finally bested me this year because I officially ran out of room to plant them all – I currently have 6 tubers waiting for me to figure out where to plant them. It will be worth it in August-October but right now I’m just shaking my head at myself. hahaha
That said, my dream of having 97% perennial plants (that bloom throughout spring – fall) in my beds is finally realized! Yay for me!

Maybe Calibrachoa (Million Bells)?
So pretty!
