Can someone please tell me how we ended up here? In this crazy house. Covered with lobsters.
What started as an off-handed remark about the house needing “lobsters crawling all over it” has somehow turned into this little magical place where we live.
It’s one thing to say, wouldn’t it be fun… If we covered the house with lobsters. It’s a whole nother thing to do it. And we did it.
I think we’re up to just over 200 wooden buoys. How wild is that? It’s hard to pick a favorite holiday “theme” as they are all so unique.
And if I’m being completely honest, I don’t think we’re done yet.
I think we might need to do something special for Thanksgiving and maybe something to change things up mid-summer.
The HH says we have enough buoys. But I disagree. And really, he’s got the whole buoy making thing down now.
It would be a shame to stop now, right?
I think I might re-paint the Easter Eggs for next year though. I think they might be a little too busy. Maybe I’ll go for a more nautical pattern.
We’ll see.
Easter falls on April 5th next year… So I also might need something for between Easter and the Fourth of July.
But what? Do you have any ideas?
The tulips were in bloom by about the third week in April last year. So maybe something flower related?
We pulled up the white daffodils {which were really late bloomers} and moved them to the side of the house.
This year we should have oodles of creamy yellow, white and pink tulips in front of the fence in early May.
Trying to match buoys and tulips… It’s a bit tricky. Or just a little on the nutty side. Ha! I’m not sure which.
The back to school display was a really fun surprise.
We put it up the weekend before school started and received SO MANY wonderful comments about the books. Especially from the kids in town.
I think we’ll have to add a few more titles next year.
The only time the lobsters weren’t on the house was the month of October.
The poor HH. Decorating the Lobster House has sort of turned into a part-time job for him.
Secretly I think he likes it though. 😉 Not that he would ever admit it, but I think he does.
So there is it. The Lobster House, through the seasons, 2025. I’d say it was a busy year in the arts and crafts department. 🙂
I’m excited to do it all again next year {and then some}.

Oh the back to school one is darling (well they all are) but wouldn’t it be fun to have children pose in front of the house before starting 1st grade and on and on. Perhaps you could do a “book” with each grade in it so they could hold up that book. 1st grade, 2nd grade etc.
Mavis Butterfield says
There were kids taking their school photos in front of the fence. 🙂 I like your “First Day Of” idea. Thanks Nancy, I might do that!!
Mel says
Thanksgiving buoys would be easy, I would think: browns and orange, turkeys, pumpkins, feathers, etc.
May is trickier, but I vote for “May flowers.”
Mavis Butterfield says
May is a hard one!!!
Mel says
Maybe just a garden theme? Flowers but also vegetables? I think beets, carrot, strawberries, etc. could be cute.

Yes- May flowers- “April Showers Bring May Flowers”
Sandra says
May is great, too. You have May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day. Colorful flowers would be perfect all month long then you can swing into Patriotic mode with Flag Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day which takes you right up to Back to School.

Bees and flowers for May!
Tamara says
They are all so special! For the Back to School one I kept looking for a pencil buoy that had a “chewed” eraser (just one or two). I love your imagination and creativity!
Sandra says
May is full of fowerful holidays such as May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day.
Nancy says
I love them all and would not be able to pick a favorite either! Such a cool and creative way to spread cheer for your town!

Loved seeing all the different ways you have decorated the house ans so creative!!!
Can you please tell me how your HH attaches those to the house? Are all the decorations made of wood?
Thanks and wishing you and yours a blessed and happy holiday season!
Olga
Mavis Butterfield says
The lobsters are hung with with hooks and screws. All the decorations are wood. 🙂

I love all of them. You could sell those buoys on etsy or somewhere… they’re unique and cute. Really enjoy seeing what you and your HH are up to. Thanks for sharing!

How about an Anne of Green Gables book for BTS? And maybe Curious George? Happy new year to everyone.
Mavis Butterfield says
We have Curious George. Anne of Green Gables would be a good one! I loved those books.
Sue S. says
They are genuinely wholesome books. We’ve read them all and borrowed the videos from the library several times. Thanks for your comment Mavis!

Such delightful fun! My vote would be Seven Silly Eaters for the younger grades…we LOVED it at our house!

My first thought was to do tulips. They wouldn’t be difficult to cut out for the side of the house, and they wouldn’t look super cute painted on buoys.
The time and effort you and your husband have taken to decorate your house has a huge ripple effect. Those children will fondly remember your precious house for the rest of their lives. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Virginia says
Oops — I meant they *would* look super cute on the buoys.

How is no one mentioning the cute red Jeep?
