Question #1
Yesterday we stopped by Costco to check out the pumpkin situation {the heirloom pumpkins are in!! Hooray! } and after I secured the ones I wanted, the HH headed to the checkout while I headed to the loo.
My quick question for you: When you use a public restroom with multiple stalls, which one do you typical go for?
I have always choose the first one if it’s available. {A random fact you probably didn’t need to know about me. HA HA HA.}
Maybe it’s because I like to get in and get out and the first stall the is closest one? I don’t know!!
But years ago I read an article in a magazine that stated the first stall in any given public restroom {with multiple stalls} is typically the cleanest one.
Did you know this?
Well, it’s true! A study published in 1995 by Psychological Science researched the amount of toilet paper used over a 10 week period and found that 60% of the toilet paper used came from the middle stalls and 40% came from the end stalls.
Pretty interesting if you ask me.
Question #2
Do you work at a cereal factory?
Do you know why the serving size of Chex mix totally depends on which Chex Mix you are pouring into your bowl?
Question #3
Did you know you can make an octopus out of a hotdog? Well now you do.
I stayed up waaaaay to late the other night and got lost on the internet. And well, I had to see if I could make an octopus hotdog. Clearly, it was a big success. {I used peppercorns for the eyes in case you were wondering.}
Maybe you want to make one to? Or maybe this is the sign you needed to log off the computer and do something else? Something productive. Hmmm.
That’s it. That’s all I’ve got for today. Have a good one.

Yup….I make hotdog octopus (octopi?!) for my grandkids. They love it
Nancy Settel says
Interesting!! My way of thinking has always been the first stall would be used the most so not as clean now that theory right out of the stall. HHHmmmm. Oh octupus out of hot dogs been a long time since making those for my “boys” still they make me smile.
Lesley says
I use the first stall because of that same article! Great minds.
Brianna says
I like the handicap stall on the end because the toilet is usually taller (I’m 5’10”) and I find short toilets uncomfortable. I don’t know if you’ve been to a Buc-ee’s, but they have individual rooms with doors in the bathrooms. They seem to have everything in them, except toilet seat liners…it blew my mind. I always put a barrier down on the toilet seat. I will spend time neatly folding the toilet paper if I have to and placing it on the seat. If it is a portable potty, then I refuse of make any contact with the seat regardless of paper.

I never sit in a public toilet as I “hover” instead. So I always pick a stall that doesn’t have lid down so I don’t have to touch it!
Diana Ellis says
I get your point but as a wheelchair bound 80 yr old woman, if you aren’t handicapped, please think of those of us who are and can’t use a regular stall. Thank you!
Tammy says
Always the first stall. Sounds like you and I read the same article at some point because I remember hearing that the first one was always the cleanest.
Diana Wright says
My daughter read the study and told our family to use the first stall in a bathroom so we always have for years now.
Anna Garza says
I always use the first stall but now I wonder if it is the most used stall because of that article.
Lana says
Handicapped stall because I am. Please don’t use it if you don’t need it!!! For some reason able bodied people like to camp out in there on their phones which is very difficult for those of us who need to use it.
Cecile says
The cereal serving is likely by grams, each of the grains would likely weigh differently therefore the cup measurement is more or less. As for the hotdogs, we’ve done this for years! We went to the cottage with our grandson and he had his first hotdog! Stick the roasting fork tine through the head down the body so you can get two done at once. Once roasted they can dip dip dip their feet to their hearts content! He eats more if he can dip whether its hummus, ketchup, mayo, yogurt etc. Obviously the dogs didn’t go in the yogurt but I’m sure at two he would have tried it had we given it to him! lol
Julie says
Well, I’m sorry, Lana, but I do use the handicapped bathroom, but I certainly don’t camp out in there looking at my phone, So maybe I’m excused? My reason is that I wear skirts and the little stalls are just gross when your skirt rubs on the toilet when you’re standing there…….getting ready, or done….
Tanya says
I too am not handicapped but if that is the only stall available and there is urgency to using the toilet I will use that stall as well. I don’t “camp out” and it is also more comfortable as I am 6′ tall and having to use a toilet that hits me mid shin in a closet I can barely turn around in is miserable.
Dianne says
Yes, I read an article stating the same years ago. I tried it out using the first stall at a swim park. It was never wet because no one used it!
Katy @ Practical Walk says
1. I don’t pay much attention to which stall I use.
2. Can’t help you with this one!
3. Yes I’ve seen that! Very cute! I think we did it one year for a beach-themed Vacation Bible School!
Heather C says
Currently I head to the handicapped stall, but I normally try to use the middle stalls. My reasoning is that the first stall is probably the most used, and the most germy.
