Last winter when I mentioned we were going to Quebec City, a bunch of you mentioned we should visit de-l’Île-d’Orléans {a little island north of the city}.
Sadly, we didn’t have enough time to visit then, but on this trip to Quebec we did. And I’m SO GLAD we took your advice!!
There was so much to see… FARMLAND, cafe’s, farmstands, vibrant little pockets of unique storefronts. What a sight!
As we were driving down the road I spotted a sign for the Tigidou Jam Factory and well, all I had to do was read the words JAM FACTORY and I was flipping out, and asking the HH to turn the car around so we could go have a look.
So he found a parking space and we followed the signs around the building.
Cafe on one side and jam factory on the other. How clever is that?
They weren’t making any jam that day {or maybe they already had?} but the jam store was open and it was delightful.
I guess for some reason it never occurred to me that you could have a store that simply sold jam. And that got me thinking…. Hmm. Now that’s a store I would be happy to own.
Low sugar, no pectin, cute jars, cute labels and free samples. Seriously, maybe I should look into this idea. Especially during the summer months where I live. I bet it would be a hit!
Strawberry basil and raspberry jalapeno looked like the most unique flavors so I decided to give those two a try. I’ve made blueberry basil jam before but nothing with jalapeños so I was pretty excited to try that one.
The jam was delicious!!
And while using fettuccine sticks instead of mini spoons was a clever idea {and probably cuts down on the “free” tastings} quite honestly they were neither practical, tasty or easy to use.
But what do I know? Setting the jam up under a cloche was a great idea though and made tasting seem like quite an event.
After picking up a few jars of jam to bring home, we ventured over to the cafe for a look around.
More jam!!
Look up! Check out the ceiling made out of scrap wood!!
And there was even a canoe. Although I wasn’t sure if you were supposed to sit in it or if it was a place to store cushions. This must be a sign I’m getting old. 😉
Tigidou Jam Factory was a good find! The jam is wonderful and I highly recommend a stop to the factory to load up on unique flavors of jam if you are ever in the area.
We ended up going home with:
Strawberry basil jam, blueberry rosemary, blackberry lemon, raspberry jalapeno and strawberry lime. And we found a cheese shop too! {But more about that tomorrow.}
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE coming home with food products instead of regular souvenirs.
Have a great day everyone, I hope it’s sunny wherever you are.
