Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend? Any BBQ’s or potlucks on the calendar? Well if you do here are three AWESOME recipes:
We don’t have anything planned, and the weather is looking a little wonky, so I might stop by the library and see if there are any new movies to check out.
I always tend to go for movies that were made in the 80’s or 90’s, but maybe you have a newer movie you can recommend?
If the weather is nice, then I’ll probably break out the giant 5 gallon bucket of fence stain and get a few more panels stained.
The mosquitoes seem to be less active these days so I should probably hop to it if I’m going to finish the fence before the weather really takes a turn.
Also, I’ve been craving soup lately and I’m on the hunt for a new soup recipe to try. A loaf of Dutch oven bread and a nice soup… With fall in the air it seems like a good idea.
So if you’ve tried a new soup recipe lately I’d LOVE to hear about it.
Oh, and I should probably pop by the nursery and see if they have mums in. They may not be my favorite plant of all time, but they sure do look great in pots on the porch this time of year.
I hope you have a great weekend.

This soup is so delicious. It’s the Pesto that makes it.
Since you have so many veggies, you could add anything. I only had (1) zucchini, so used a summer squash. I also used much more kale than called for as it cooks right down and tender. I thought I didn’t like kale too. I put it all in the Instant Pot on Soup setting for 30 mins. I used ditalini and put it in uncooked after the soup was done, but I’ll cook it seperate the next time and put it in the bowls when ready to serve. Pasta, for me, always seems to get too soft, especially if you’d like it the next day or want to freeze some. You probably have your own tricks.

Sometimes I look up an author or actor and watch every movie associated with them. I did this with John Grisham films and shows. Awesome cannon of films based on his writings.

We used to do a casual version of this. We used to watch a great movie with a specific great actor & be inspired to put on a bunch of other movies that starred the same actor -it was so much fun!!!

This is the BEST soup!! Our daughter made it for us a few times and I can make myself sick eating it!!

I can highly recommend Project Hail Mary as a great new movie! We mostly watch old movies at our house so I’ll recommend a few excellent choices: Pillow Talk, Operation Petticoat, The Quiet Man (our annual St. Patrick’s Day tradition), Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies, The North Avenue Irregulars. Have fun!

I just came across a soup I am going to try. It’s called Longevity Soup, inspired by the Blue Zones. As you can imagine, it’s full of veggies as well as beans.
(A blue zone is a region in the world where people are claimed to have exceptional longevity beyond the age of 100 due to a lifestyle combining physical activity, low stress, rich social interactions, a predominantly plant-based diet, and low disease incidence. The name blue zones derived simply during the original survey by scientists, who “used a blue pen on a map to mark the villages with long-lived population.”)
Suggested blue zones include Okinawa Prefecture in Japan, Nuoro Province in Sardinia, Italy, the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, and Icaria, Greece.

I’ve been wanting soup, too, even though we are still in the eighties and nineties here in Arizona. The meal list for next week includes split pea soup and Italian peasant cabbage soup. I’ll be happy sitting in my air conditioned house eating them both!

Split pea is always a winner!!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I am taking my three grandchildren camping with my husband this weekend. I may need a vacation after the vacation. If you want to watch something new, and if your library has it, I recommend The Hail Mary Project. I read the book and they did a wonderful job with the movie. If you want something beautiful and inspiring and all about gardening, check out 2016’s The Beautiful Fantastic. I know you’d love it.

Will check for Hail Mary Project. I’ve seen The Beautiful Fantastic and LOVED it!!

Mavis, we absolutely LOVE Creamy Green Curry Chicken Ramen Soup from Allrecipes. Has wonderful flavor, goes together in a flash and is light but substantial. I agree we all love when seasons change and it’s time to pull out our soup recipes again. Mmmmm!

I made a batch of soup last week. Even though it was a hot day, it was a great option for supper. Finished all but a small amount yesterday for lunch. I can happily eat soup year round!
