4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup {2 sticks} unsalted butter, room temperature
1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk {I used 2%}
1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  1. Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder into a bowl and set aside.
  2. Mix the butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla together with a electric mixer until smooth.
  3. Gradually add about 1/2 of the flour mixture, then the 1/2 cup of milk, then the remaining flour mixture until everything is mixed together.
  4. Divide dough into quarters, wrap in Saran Wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  6. Roll out cookie dough on to a floured surface with a rolling pin to 1/4-inch thick.
  7. Cut out cookies with your favorite cookie cutters,* place on a lined baking sheet {I use Silpats}* and bake for 6 -7 minutes.
  8. Cool on a wire rack.
  9. Decorate or eat plain.
