With all that talk about it finally being time to update the bathroom yesterday, it reminded me of some pictures I took of award winning toilets while we were in the Cotswolds. đ
You never know what youâre going to find when youâre out for a walk and well, one afternoon I was walking around the back of the main downtown area and came across a building with âPublic Conveniences” on the side of it.
It took me a second to realize that public conveniences meant bathrooms and upon further inspection there was a plaque on the outside of the building announcing the toilets on West Street, Tetbury were award winning.
So of course I had to take a look inside. I mean, wouldnât you?
I wonder how many awards the British Toilet Association has passed out over the years? Do YOU live in England? Do you have an award winning toilet in your town?
Forget sinks. In a lot of places in the UK they have handwashing stations built into the wall. Not only is this a space saver, but kind of cool too.
As long as you can figure out how to use them. {Some are more obvious than others.}
So far I wasnât seeing anything award winning.
But the fact that there were actual doors, with no peaky spots or major gaps on the sides {or on top or below} was a bonus in my book.
Nope. Nothing award winning here. Just a toilet in a stall. Nothing to write home about.
Which made me wonder if these were award winning, what did the other ones look like?
Yada yada yada⌠I was talking to my husband about the âawards winning toiletsâ the next day and was showing him the pictures when he mentioned that if there was an award for toilets, the hotel we were staying in {The Close Hotel} should win a MAJOR award for theirs.
And then he proceeded to tell me about the men’s bathroom in the lobby.
GO TAKE A PICTURE!!! I want to see! – Mavis
Iâm not going to take a picture of the bathroom. – HH
Oh câmon⌠Just do it!!! – Mavis
Okay. Now THOSE are some award winning toilets!!! Wouldnât you agree? After I saw the picture I ran to the ladies room to see what it looked like.
For starters… Look at that nice oak door!
And the door knob!
Oh la la. Now those are some nice restrooms. And check out the length of those doors.
Now my friends⌠That is what an award winning toilet should look like.
But what do I know? Iâm just a weird American taking pictures of bathrooms and sharing them on the internet. đ
Have a great weekend everyone, and thanks for stopping by.
I hope you see something that makes you smile today.

I think the award probably relates to the flower beds rather than the toilets. Public Conveniences are few and far nowadays due to cuts in funding etc. At least they look clean. I have walked into some awful ones and walked straight out again. As a child in the 1950’s I remember the posh toilets in the Kendal Milne department store in Manchester. Marble surrounds to the sinks and a lady who inspected the cubicle before the next person used it. Those were the days.

I thought the outside was really very nice. Lot’s of flowers, and everything was tidy, that’s for sure.

I was amazed at how clean the men’s room was. They are disgusting in America according to my Hubby.

And, they were free! Such a nice feature that the towns have public toilets in a convenient spot for people to use. Saved my bacon a few times!

Beautiful flower beds, adorable building and so CLEAN for a public convenience. Love it. The hotel bathrooms are to die for aren’t they? Nobody does wall paper like the U. K.

How’s the TP? They used to have some kind of thin, scratchy wax paper in public restrooms there. Not exactly absorbent. Any upgrade should win an award!

I even have a toilet paper collection from the 1070’s trip to England, Scotland and Wales. The most interesting had printing like the name of the city.
