Back in October I asked for your help deciding on whether we should go with the skinny blue tile or the beige tile with cream flowers for the main bathroom at the cottage.
The feedback was pretty much 50/50. Half liked the blue, half liked the beige.
And after a few weeks of staring at tile boards, I did something I’ve never done before.
I stepped out of my comfort zone and picked what I liked the best.
Not the safe bet {white subway tile or something more neutral} but something a little risky, something a little more exciting. Something other than white or beige.
What started as a coastal vibe with cool, calm colors over at the cottage has turned into… Just pick all the things you like and see where it takes you.
I’ve never really done that before and in some ways it’s been really fun and freeing and other times I just hope I’m making the right decision.
But is there a right decision?
I don’t know. But what I do know is that I like what I’ve picked out so far. Even if I don’t quite have all of the puzzle pieces right now.
Confidence. Maybe that’s what I have.
Or maybe I’m past the point of worrying about what the NEXT person who lives here will want/think/care about.
Well it’s done! The tile floor and the shower walls are done and we’re both really happy with the way it turned out.
Next up is picking out a vanity.
Once we decide on one of those we can get the facet hardware {and order matching hardware for the shower}.
The first round of vanities we picked out for the bathrooms were a no-go. The quality of the cabinets were awful. So back to the store they went.
Before they went back though we hauled the 18” vanity upstairs to see what it would look like in the main bathroom.
It fits! A little snug, yes. But an 18” vanity fits with no alterations needed to the existing plumbing.
Plus we’ll gain a little storage space if we go with this style of vanity.
We had thought about putting in a pedestal sink but anytime you can squeeze in some extra storage in a teeny tiny house it’s always a good thing.
We just have to find the right vanity. 😉
I did find a sconce that I liked though. But we aren’t going to install it {or the floating shelves that will go behind the door} until we have a vanity in place.
Fingers crossed that by the time spring rolls around the bathrooms will be done! I think we’re moving at a pretty good clip overall.
Even if some days it does seem like it.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for today. I hope you have a good one. 🙂
Peace out,
~Mavis

Excellent tile and sink vanity choice. My experience has been, always go with what you love. It’s usually the right choice. When my husband wanted to paint our guest room a deep red, I thought he was crazy. Turned out it was perfect for the antique furniture and Victorian era vibe we wanted to create. My sister calls it the calm, peacefully, spa type room. Was definitely out of my comfort zone for paint colors, but it turned into one of the most beautiful rooms we had ever created.

I would love to see a picture of that room.

Still reads like a calm, coastal vibe to me. Love it so much, including the temporary vanity! The sconce is gorgeous.

Looks nice…good job! The blue tile is so refreshing.

It looks light and beachy. I love it!
Lynn from NC Outer Banks says
The colors and tile look great, and I love the blue, especially.
When I was redoing tile in our bathrooms, I was paralyzed by worrying about the tile if we sold our house in the future. I finally picked what I liked too, and 20 years later I still love my choices!

That blue is gorgeous.

Digging it Mavis! Love the small vanity too! Just right
Kathleen says
I love both your tile choices – a beachy spa vibe! And the temporary vanity looks great in there.

I love your bathroom choices!
I came here to also say, we have a pedestal sink in one of our bathrooms and I hate it. There is a small indentation on both sides of the faucet and that’s it. A place for soap and I have a little dish with a nail brush. So you have to have a cupboard or something for anything else.

It’s all beautiful! Going with what you love is always the right choice.

Looks beautiful! I fully support choosing what you love. New buyers will always want to put their own touches on a place. So long as you don’t do something that would be wildly costly to change I wouldn’t sweat about the resale stuff.

The tile looks beautiful! We planned for our current house to be our forever home, though you never know what will happen. Even so, I have adopted the decorating philosophy that I should surround myself with things I love. The next person to own the house would probably change it anyway, so why should I try to guess what they would want at the expense of what I like?
