For date day this week, the HH I went to American Flatbread Company in Rockport, Maine. We drive by this place all the time and finally decided to pop in and see what it was all about.
During the summer months the parking lot is packed and there are loads of people eating outside on picnic tables. Picnic tables are BIG here in Maine, and almost everyplace that serves food outside has them.
Warm flatbread cooked in a wood fired oven… what could be better on a cold winter’s day in Maine?
Repurposed tomato cans used as light fixtures… how cool is that?
And menu covers drawn with kids artwork! 🙂
Since this was our first time at the Flatbread company, we weren’t sure what to order but finally decided to go with the “punctuated equilibrium”.
While our flatbread was in the oven, we split a big salad with roasted red peppers and red onions and it had the most delicious sesame vinaigrette dressing, that I asked the HH to see if he can re-create it for my birthday dinner next month.
Kalamata olives, goat cheese, roasted red peppers and parmesan… it was fantastic! The whole meal was a 10/10 and I wouldn’t have changed a single thing. I love it when that happens!
Flatbread Company… It’s just another reason to visit the great state of Maine. 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend everyone, stay warm.

ÂĽ cup cider vinegar
½ cup vegetable oil
Whisk or mix with an immersion blender.

I add a couple of drops of sesame oil (along with some vinegar & olive oil) to my salads and my hubby uses bottled salad dressings along with a little sesame oil – it gives the salads a nice flavor. The key is to just use a little bit – you can always add more if you want.

Hi Mavis!
This place is an offshoot of the original American Flatbread in Waitsfield, Vermont. Their salad dressing recipe is readily available if you Google American Flatbread sesame dressing. If you come to Vermont, American Flatbread locations are in Waitsfield, Middlebury, and Burlington. Happy early birthday!

I love the Toasted Asian Sesame by Kraft. I haven’t yet found a homemade version I like better.

The link takes me to Flatbread Company which has multiple locations including Hawaii instead of to American Flatbread which is where you ate?

I know this has nothing to do with the subject, but the rug you are holding up at the bottom of the pink/red bird and the heart flowers would make a pretty tote. It may be too heavy to make it into a big purse, but it would be nice.
