bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
After listening to the book Dearie: The remarkable life of Julia Child on Audiobook, I was poking around online and came across an article online by Philadelphia Cousins, who was Julia Child’s niece.
Julia’s niece was reminiscing about her Aunt’s evening ritual of wrapping up the evening after a meal with friends {or family}.
“Then we retired to the living room for a digestif and coffee. At 10:15 precisely, the lights clicked off on a timer, which signaled that it was time to leave, which was done with hugs and kisses all around.”
Julia had her lights on timers! How clever was that!? I love it!!
Have you heard the news? The USPS will honor Betty White with her own stamp in 2025! How cool is that!?
Would you pay 6.2 million dollars for a banana? Someone just did.
Are you in the market for a new dog bed? The Pelsbarn comfy nest keeps popping up in my feed. No, we aren’t buying one for Lucy {she likes the tops of the couch cushions too much} but I thought it was cute.
Anyone looking for a renovation project in Cornwall? This one’s got nothing but potential! It has an amazing view, a walkable downtown and would be a perfect flip or a holiday let. Plus it has an AGA! It just needs everything else. Including a garden.
And last but not least… I discovered a bear in the house yesterday. What is it with animals and pine floors? They’re always hiding in the knots! Or maybe I’m just crazy. But do you see it though? The bear? He’s there, right?
Well, I’ve got to go. My shift at the wooden buoy factory is starting soon.
Have a great weekend everyone.

When company stayed too late, my grandpa used to say, “Well, Ma, you suppose we should go to bed so these people can go home?”

Our dear friends were early-morning people. (we are not). At 9 p.m., they would trail through the living room and say, “Time for bed. Turn out the lights when you go.” Then the bedroom door would shut — and that was it!
Yes, someone could waste millions of dollars on a banana taped to the wall with duct tape. (I am still wondering how they got it off the wall, quite frankly.) There are plenty of idiots out there. I’d rank this up with the people who buy a piece of toast that they swear has the Virgin Mary imprinted on it. They’re out there! And I’m betting the sellers rush to cash the check before the buyer changes their mind.
And when my investment portfolio kicks out at least a million pounds, I’ll definitely put a bid on that Cornwall freehold!
P.S. I’m hearing some news about eggs not being that available in various parts of the country. It hasn’t happened in Colorado yet, but the price has shot up alarmingly. Eggs will last for weeks in the fridge — better break your “no-buy” rule and get enough for Christmas baking, at least. Or some egg powder.

Supposedly more bird flu. I am paying over $7.00 for 18 brown eggs at Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania.
