I love Lucy to the moon and back, but it’s important to me that my house doesn’t smell like dog. I like a fresh, clean smelling house, so I’ve been using this easy peasy carpet freshener recipe to make that possible. Works like a charm and all you have to do is dig around in your spice cabinet!
Here’s the basic recipe I use:
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 teaspoon dried lavender {I like to pulse mine in the blender just a little}
Mix both ingredients together in a small bowl. Pour mixture into a lid with holes already in it {like for powdered sugar or red peppers—you can easily find these at the dollar store}. Sprinkle onto carpet, wait 15 minutes and then vacuum your floors like normal.

I like to use clove oil and orange oil and make a larger batch, mix well in a jar and seal. I let it set a day and then use it. I love it for the fall season.

Hi Heather, I also love orange oil. Are you mixing the oils with the baking soda when you write that you are making a larger batch? Thanks!

Does dried real lavender smell like the “fake” stuff in cheap soaps, etc.,? That stuff is heinous!
Orange, clove, or lemon, OTOH, I could really appreciate…

is 1 teaspoon lavender correct. the picture looks very different.

I put a little more in because I love it strong, but most don’t. 1 tsp is a good place to start to see how strong you like it. You can always increase if you need!
