Yesterday 2 young woodpeckers stopped by for a visit and Lucy the puggle dog was totally mesmerized with them. She didn’t bark once. It was weird. Poor puggles, she wants to be friends with every living creature she sees and I think it breaks her little heart when she can’t run out and play with them.

I love bird watching. Those are adult red-breasted sapsuckers. Check out whatbird.com for easy bird identification.
My lab has the same affliction, he wants to play with birds, and cats, and random strangers. But strangely 90lbs of black lab coming flying towards something scares it off 🙁
I have two 80+pound German Shepherds, and not only do they fly at people/animals/whatever, they bark and their hackles go up. It’s their way of saying, “Hey, let’s play!” They can’t understand why nobody wants to be friends.
I have a sliding glass door to my back porch, which is large enough for a couple of square dancers. I put up the bird feeders around the edges. i call this Dog TV, as my dog sits behind the door & bird watches. Nose prints seen @ the height of 5′.
