I placed my seed order with Seed Savers yesterday and in doing so I have finalized the tomato varieties I’ll grow this year. I’ll be growing a total of 17 different heirlooms this summer. I hope I’m not limiting myself.
Sweet Pea Currant
Japanese Trifele Black
Beam’s Yellow Pear
*Hartman’s Yellow Gooseberry
*Dr. Wyche’s Yellow
I have added a * to the varieties which are new to me. If you have grown any of them please leave me a comment below telling me what your opinions are on the variety. Having to narrow down tomato seeds is a tough one for me. I have my favorites like the Japanese Trifele Black, Cherokee Purple and Yellow Pear but every year I still want to try a few new ones as well. Luckily this year I am going for the gold and will need to grow an incredible amount of tomatoes if I hope to reach my goal of 2,000 lbs of homegrown fruits and veggies. Being able to choose 17 different ones is a bit of a luxury if you ask me. Now all I need to do is sit down and figure out how many tomato plants I’ll want to grow.
Are YOU growing tomatoes this year? If so what kind?
