Well, it’s finally time to update the bathroom.
The tile guy is scheduled to be here early next week which means we have from now until then to get everything off the walls, remove the bathroom vanity, the toilet, get the washer and dryer downstairs and then put everything on the curb.
Then of course hope that someone wants a free washer and dryer and vanity and will haul it away. Things have been pretty crazy around here lately. And it’s only going to get nuttier the next three months.
Mostly it’s just that everything is happening all at once and there is basically something on the calendar every day from now until the middle of October.
I’d tell you everything that was on the calendar right now but what would be the fun in that?
Yes, those are faux wood floor tiles on the shower walls!
And yes that is an old beat up dresser with a sink in it. 🙂
Making a space your own is a lot of work, that’s for sure.
But I’m hoping with a little elbow grease {and some help from the tile guy} we can update the bathroom with something that’s a little more our style.
White walls, a navy blue vanity and some funky tile. I hope it all comes together in the end.
I guess we’ll find out together. 🙂

P.S. Any suggestions on what to do in that awkward space to the left of the washer and dryer would be most appreciated.

I’m living a vicarious bathroom remodel through you! I LOVE that vanity!
Mavis Butterfield says
So do I. It’s kind of flash for us, but I hope it all looks good in the end.

Can the opening be made bigger and make it into a closet or open shelving?
Mavis Butterfield says
Nope. The top area is hiding plumbing.

What’s on the other side of the wall from the washer/dryer? Could you knock out that wall and make a built in cabinet/shelf set up? Maybe a closed bottom to store a basket for dirty laundry, and either open shelves or cabinets above for laundry supplies? I assume the soffit above is hiding HVAC/Plumbing? If not, and it’s fake, I’d put in some storage cabinets so that the whole space has a built-in feel.
Or, if the wall needs to stay, open the framing on the right to fit a basket better, and have a door made so that it looks like a faux cabinet?
Another idea, depending again on what that wall is doing/hiding, close it off completely and knock into that space from the outside to create a linen closet.
Good luck – I love the colors, can’t wait to see the transformation.

I think it’s going to be amazing! As far as the odd space, maybe put a door on it will a slide out hamper for laundry?

Love the tile you chose.

It’s going to look gorgeous!

I would fill the space with drawers come a cabinet with pull out shelves to hold your laundry and bathroom cleaning supplies.
Theresa says
I would put shelves up. You could even put a door on it and use it as a linen or storage closet.

You could put in shelves for storage or make hanging slots for laundry baskets or a hamper? or a cute little ruffled curtain covering it would be pretty!

We have laundry sorting station beside our wash/ dry
Three collapsible bins dark/ light/ whites, when a bin is full, do a wash….. we have a hanging area, so clothes out of dryer hang, no wrinkles…..or drawers to hold
his and hers undies or pj’s….
Ours is set up this way…makes life easier.

We are having both of our bathrooms remodeled at the same time! Luckily we have a camper that has a bathroom so I don’t have to use a porta potty. The estimated time frame for completion is three weeks so it will be crazy here for a while. We are still working with a design team to choose the finishes. We are moving the toilets and adding new windows and moving walls so it will be fun to see end result!

When I saw that cubby space, I immediately thought it needs to turned into drawers! A lot of older houses have cupboards on top & drawers on bottom near their bathrooms — it could be a revised version of that with a nod to the practicality of older home design. We have lived in several homes that had something like this: https://in.pinterest.com/pin/404127766583276855/

Upon further inspection, the pic I linked to seems like it’s not built directly into the wall — at the houses we’ve lived in, the linen cabinet/drawers were built into the wall, they did not stick out from the wall.
Susan Williams says
Can that space be opened up? or even opened up enough to turn it into a linen closet (or open shelving)?
Mavis Butterfield says
Nope.
Stacie says
Could you have a drawers built into that little cubby space? If you need any more bathroom inspiration Mix and Match Mama just redid her Nantucket bathrooms in a blue and white theme and shared all the before and after on her blog.
debbie in alaska says
sliding drawers for sure so they look like built ins
Teri says
Are you putting a new w\d in that spot?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes. The HH is still “researching”. Who knows how long that’s going to take. 🙂

I vote for a linen closet. Or one of those white wire basket storage units from IKEA. I have one in each closet.
Suzanne says
Slide out shelves like in a pantry to store laundry/bathroom supplies. Love that vanity!!!

I like your color choices. I am partial to blue and white, they are so clean looking. For the space next to the washer/dryer, I think I would put a door on it. Or even close it off if you won’t be able to put in shelves. At first I thought a laundry sorter would be nice, but you do not have a large family so closing it off would be the best option. Good luck with what you decide. I am sure it will be the best possible solution.

Can you do side by side washer dryer, getting rid of the strange cubbyhole to the left of the current stacked ones? Then you would have space above them for racks for hanging to dry or other bathroom items.
Mavis Butterfield says
Nope. No room. 🙁
Heather says
If the overhang over the washer and dryer is not a supporting beam, cut it out. Expand the area, get rid of the crawl space, open it all up. Add your new washer and dryer, a divider to the left of the washer dryer, (dry wall, wood board) and some open shelving units extening from the divider to the left wall. You could put baskets on them to hold laundry stuff, or towels, etc.
