The good news is, the HH created a new brick path for the garden yesterday. The bad news is we are both super sore from moving bricks from one spot in the garden to the other. BUT it’s done! We have a proper walkway and now I have yet another home improvement project I can check off my to-do list for this year. Yee-Haw!
It took about 270 bricks and I don’t know how many bags of sand, but luckily, once we decided on the pattern for the walkway, it went pretty quick.
First he leveled off the area with sand.
The we decided on a width for the walkway. We went with 3 feet because we thought a 4 foot walkway would look out of place for the relatively short {about 18 feet} walk to the front porch. Plus, having the walkway 3 feet would allow for flowers to be planted on each side of the walkway.
After the area was leveled off, he started laying the brick.
At one point I thought it might look like to have pavers down the garden rows, so I set a few in place then quickly realized that if we did that, I’d be stuck with that particular garden row design forever {because the HH wasn’t going to do it twice} and decided it was a bad idea.
The corner was a bit tricky, but eventually we figured out all we needed to do was fan the bricks out around the bend, and the rest of the walkway came together pretty quickly.
As soon as the bricks were all laid and the HH went inside, I planted petunias because I thought he was all done.
He wasn’t. 🙂 He still had to brush the paver dust stuff in between the bricks to set them in place. And then rinse the walkway off.
CHECK IT OUT!!! Not only do I have a cute little white picket fence, but a sweet little walkway too.
Now all that’s left to do is plant the rest of the garden and paint the house.
Mrs. HB, hurry up and get here already. I need your help!

yes, not all husbands respond so well to a honey do list or are as handy and helpful.

It looks beautiful! Wish I could get my husband interested in helping on home improvements! But I was surprised to see you purchased the petunias. I thought you had grown petunias from seeds.
Mavis Butterfield says
I did, but those ones are going in the pots on the back porch.

Absolutely beautiful job. Wish I had someone who could help me. Being asthmatic and having had a cardiac condition, I have to pace myself so things take twice as long.

The real question is where HH is interested in teaching other husbands to be as handy and patient as him! We need a cheat sheet to spread on 🙂

*whether not where! Woops

Nice job! Very impressive! The walkway goes perfectly with the picket fence! Good that you are getting it all done when you are young…it takes the hubby and I twice as long to do things now, but so worth it! Such a sense of satisfaction.

Go Mavis! And HH!
You are inspiring and empowering me with your terrific blog.
I’ve had some paint samples on my wall for MONTHS . . . Time to decide and get on the repainting.
That’s the hard part for me . . . deciding.
Thanks, Mavis!

What always strikes me about the end products of your brilliant efforts is they end up looking like they’ve always been that way, and you can’t imagine there was a “before” because they are just right. Congrats on each and every transformation. You’ve taken a year with lots of lemons and made marvelous lemonade!
