bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
I firmly believe if it is going to be this cold, there needs to be snow on the ground. Every single day.
I’ve been applying Isle of Paradise self tanning butter to my face about once every four days for about a month now, and it’s just enough of a {fake} kiss from the sun to get me through the winter months. I figure this is cheaper than a ticket to Bora Bora.
I am in LOVE with this owl sweater. If only I knew how to knit. It’s crazy to think there are people in this world who could buy this pattern, follow the directions and actually end up with a sweater that looks like this.
Talent and patience, that’s what it is. Talent and patience.
We were out running errands the other day {much longer than expected} and it was tea o’clock so of course I had the HH stop so I could get my afternoon cuppa.
I had not been to a 7-11 in about 12 years so it was sort of fun to look around and see what was there. I spotted the usual things like a slurpee machine and hot dogs on rollers, but so was also a DIY nacho machine!
I thought it was fascinating. The HH wouldn’t let me get one though… And that’s saying a lot because he likes all that gross boy food.
Also I was surprised that Gas is currently $2.79 a gallon. Doesn’t that seem low? Maybe I need to get out more. How much is gas going for these days in YOUR neck of the woods?
That’s it. That’s all I’ve got for today.
Here’s hoping you have a nice, warm and lovely weekend.

My family in North Carolina & Texas have snow before we do. I’m so bummed. I need a winter wonderland!
Does the lotion have a scent to it? I’m really sensitive to scents so I’ve avoided buying tanning lotions but I sure could use a touch of color on my pale, Irish heritage skin!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, to me it has a very mild soap like scent to it that last about 1 minute. I too am super sensitive to scents and this lotion doesn’t bother me.

$3.33 per gallon here in northwestern Pennsylvania.

I think you have a lot of talent and patience for rug hooking! I have a boxed rug hook kit I bought in a thrift store (have not hooked rugs in years!) and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed looking at it – it’s huge. So your patience amazes me! And I think gas where I am (Maryland) is about the same as yours. Oh, also, I would love to gift you our snow right now;)

We got gas yesterday at Costco for 2.76 a gallon (Tallahassee, FL). It seems to hover around 2.76 – 2.79 since Christmas.

$2.69 at Sam’s near Charlotte

What a nice price to pay. We are currently down to $3.65 per gallon for the cheap stuff. It had been up to $4.29. Not sure why its down. California is toying with us. Sometime in the late 90s, I remember getting off the freeway and noticing gas had gone up to $1.00!!!!!!!!!!! I was shocked. As a single mom I did not know how on earth I was going to afford that.

Gas in Washing state ranges from 3.89 at a chevron to 3.45 st Fed Meyers. Two years ago they added a cap and trade bill that added about fifty cents a gallon. If we drive into Oregon we can get it for 2.99 at Costco.
Jeanine says
Gas here in California at Costco is $4.15.
TS says
Seattle area – I paid $3.46 a gallon at Costco.
Sue in SoCal says
I agree on the snow. Isn’t that really the only reason for it to be cold? I do know how to knit but don’t do a lot of color work. Too many ends to weave in. Doesn’t really take any patience though, just practice. It’s very good for mental health. That is a gorgeous sweater.
Just filled up the tank and gas here was $3.95 but I’ve seen it as high as $4.25 or more.
Lana says
$2.48 at Sam’s in SC.

We just got about about 4” of snow last night, after the ice last weekend. I haven’t left the house since last Saturday.
I looked up my local gas station and right now gas is $2.54

Mavis…..you could knit! Knitting is just putting one loop into a different loop.
So many YouTube videos…..so many friends to encourage you.
Go for it!

$2.97 in Northern New Hampshire two days ago.
Heather in Nevada says
This weather is SO weird. We are in Northern Nevada. Reno has had 0.9″ of snow this water year, when we usually see 5.9″ of snow by now. Ugh.
Northern California and Oregon (where we have family) are getting snow, but the snow isn’t crossing into Nevada.
Somedays it is so warm you don’t need a coat outside and it feels like it should be March. Hopefully we get some rain/snow at some point.
Holley says
I have your snow, Mavis! It is not supposed to be here (north Georgia mountains)! Please come get it!
I think our gas prices are hovering around $2.80.
Lisa in Maryland says
Mavis, Please stop in Maryland on your way down and take some of ours. We are done with snow, and winter has just begun.
Mimi says
Love that sweater! I could knit it but with the cost of quality yarn I’d be tempted to buy the completed version.

I can’t believe I’m first to comment on the DIY Nacho Bar! I’m not saying I was a bit of a party girl, BUT in the 80’s in the PNW we ALWAYS stopped for 7-11 nachos on the way home!! The best fake cheese HANDS DOWN!
Mavis Butterfield says
Have they always had a nacho bar!? Your comment is hilarious. 🙂
Poppy Keats says
Maybe you could find a knitter who would like one of your hooked rugs and you could make a trade?

Gas in my So Cal neighborhood ranges from $3.99 – $4.59. If you find some rain or snow we’ll take it. Very dry here and haven’t seen any rain in a long time.

I firmly believe if it is going to be this cold, there needs to be snow on the ground. Every single day. — living in Boise, I agree with this 1000%; I say it all the time! I just checked the 10-day forecast and we have some 13-14° SUNNY days coming. GRRRR!

I paid $3.14 a gallon this morning in Alaska
